College Football Crapshoot: SEC to Cling to Reputation for Dear Life
Week 3 Crappy Record: 6-0
Cumulative Crappy Record: 19-5
The College Football Crapshoot now carries a two-week, no-hit bid into Week 4 on the strength of back-to-back 6-0 performances. It is at this time I request that nobody talk to me as I take the mound to continue such a flawless streak.
Crappy Video of the Week: Ryan Mallet throws away his Heisman Trophy twice in one quarter.
Here's What I Know Will Happen
I Know TCU (-33.5) Will Cover at Colorado State![]()
TCU, like Boise State, is straight up filthy despite its backdoor road to a BCS championship. When the dust settles, TCU has a great chance to out-style Boise State in the style points department, and it doesn't help that they'll be battling a Colorado State team that may be down emotionally following a close shootout win versus Idaho. If this were EA Sports NCAA Football '11, TCU's season schedule would be on rookie.
I Know Boise State (-42.5) Will Cover at New Mexico State
The Broncos did not quite make the statement they wanted to make at home against Oregon State as the game was far from a blowout. Fair or not, Boise State's chances of backing into the national title game will depend on style points, and the Broncos cannot afford to play around with teams like New Mexico State.
Until they get their next opportunity to post an impressive win against Nevada, BSU will have to make due by sucking the blood out of the teenage boys currently remaining on their schedule like Megan Fox did in Jennifer's Body.
Here's What I Think Will Happen
I Think Oklahoma Will Win the Red River Shootout
Texas has already been exposed as an impostor just three weeks into the college football season, and Oklahoma seems to be on the verge of joining them.
The Sooners still have the talent to continue salvage a national title run, and I can't help but trust Landry Jones, who filled in admirably against Texas last year, at quarterback more than the other guy Garrett Gilbert.
This game should be close for the first three quarters until Oklahoma manages to pull away late. The Sooners go one more week without having to read about how they are officially a bunch of frauds. I think.
I Think Alabama (-8) Covers vs. Florida
Florida seems to have gotten their act together just in time to face Alabama. The problem is, they will be facing Alabama. Should Alabama score quickly by imposing their will on the ground like I think they will, Florida may find themselves on the losing end of a blowout.
While John Brantley has been improving each week, Alabama's defense will figure to set him back as their greedy secondary should have multiple opportunities to create turnovers while Ingram and Co. capitalize on them. The revenge factor for Florida will keep the Gators hanging around in this one for longer than they should. But 'Bama wins big. I think.
Here's What I'm Probably Wrong About
I'm Probably Wrong, but Louisiana Monroe (+35) Covers at Auburn
Auburn will be coming off three straight come-from-behind, emotional victories—two of which were come-from-behind victories. These wins have basically defined the Tigers' season, and with the taste of a big-time bowl game already in their mouths, expect the Tigers to come out flat and suffer a scare or—dare I say—a loss to ULM.
ULM covered a 34-point spread versus Arkansas a few weeks back in a similar spot where Arkansas was privy to an emotional disadvantage as they were looking ahead to a meaty SEC schedule.
Auburn may or may not hang on in a game where they are destined to underestimate the Warhawks following three emotionally draining wins against tough competition.
I'm Probably Wrong, but Oregon Will Beat Stanford at Home
We picked Stanford to win the Pac-10 earlier this year, however this is the one game we had them losing. Stanford has played better than even I expected them to, however playing their third road game in four weeks after traveling across the country and beating Notre Dame should give Oregon a greater edge at Autzen Stadium.
This one will figure to be a shootout, and Stanford has the edge in coaching under Jim Harbaugh, but fatigue will play a role in what will figure to be a fast-paced, high-energy contest.
Oregon, not Stanford, will be able to tire out its opposition with a strong ground game, and the greatest college football offense that this young decade has ever seen should hold on for a big win.
