The Invncibles: Wrestling's Elite Superstars
The following slideshow consists of the greatest of everything to do with Wrestling, from greatest technical wrestler to the greatest moment in the WWE.
While most of these are my personal opinions, thus stating the majority of readers will disagree with me however I am certain that a few of you will agree with me.
Enjoy and feel free to comment.
The Greatest Family
1 of 50
The Anoai Family Tree is one of the greatest in the business of professional wrestling. With many great family's such as the Harts, McMahon's, Orton's etc, none scream out more talent then the Anoai Family.
The following link highlights all the wrestlers to come out of the Anoai Family.
With greats such The Rock, Yokozuna, Umaga and the Wild Samoans, this family has been blessed with amazing in ring ability, popularity and success.
Yokozuna became the first Samoan to win a World Championship.
The Rock became the First African American to win the WWE Championship.
The Wild Samoans became the first Samoans to win the WWE Tag team Championships.
Rocky Johnson Became the first African American to hold the WWE tag Team titles alongside partner Tony Atlas.
With new edition The Uso's, the family can only get better as time goes on.
The Greatest Technical Wrestler
2 of 50
Kurt Angle is known around the world as an Olympic Gold Medalist, WWE Champion, TNA Champion, NJPW Champion, WCW Champion, World Champion and a host full of other titles.
It is only natural for Kurt Angle to be regarded as the greatest in ring technician in wrestling history. With a great amateur background in wrestling, Angle has managed to develop great mat, technical, grappling and pound for pound combat skills compared to any other wrestler to date.
He showcases some of his talent, during his matches with Benoit, Lesnar and Jericho. I no many people would consider Bret Hart, Dean Malenko or Jericho to be the top contenders for this award however when Kurt gets in a ring there is no competition.
The Greatest Light Heavyweight Wrestler
3 of 50
Jushin Liger is one of the most prolific and household names in Wrestling today, with his trademark attire and innovative moves such as the shooting star press he has become the definition of Light Heavweight Wrestler.
With the likes of Jericho, Benoit and Owen Hart all stating that Liger is in a league of his own, it is only fair that for the 20+year career of jushin to be credited as much as possible especially within the IWC.
He has accumulated over 50 championships in his career, his trademark move the shooting star press has been copied by many a superstar such as Brock Lesnar and Evan Bourne.
He is an icon in Japan and a Legend worldwide.
Greatest Wrestler Not To Win a World Championship
4 of 50
Dynamite Kid is one of the greatest wrestlers in the world to have never won a major heavyweight championship, for a man of his caliber and technique it is almost unheard of.
Bret Hart has credited The Kid for being the greatest wrestler in the world, guys like Benoit and Owen Hart molded their wrestling abilities around Dynamite, from his famous headbutts to his aggressive submission holds.
I no many would consider guys like Perfect, Rude or Snuka to be listed as their number ones, but none of the above mentioned come close to Dynamite Kids talent. However having said that I am pretty sure that if Dynamite never have that horrendous career ending injury he would of become the greatest champion ever.
The Greatest Tag Team
5 of 50
I no I have stated in my previous articles that The Dudley's are the greatest Tag Team in wrestling. However I felt that just by looking at the impact and influence the LOD had in wrestling, guys like the Dudley's perhaps would not have been given the chance to excel at such a high level.
L.O.D have won nearly every tag championship available to them during their career. They should would out a doubt be allowed to enter into the HOF at some point in the not to distant future.
Greatest Canadian Wrestler
6 of 50
A lot of talent comes out of Canada and in most cases it is some of the greatest. Wrestler's such as Benoit Jericho, Edge, Owen Hart, Stu Hart, Rick Martel etc are all exceptional wrestlers however none reek of more greatness then Bret The Hitman Hart i.e. The Excellence of Execution.
Bret Hart played a massive role in the WWE, after the departures of Diesel, Hogan, Hall, Savage and others, Bret managed to grab the brassed ring and with Vince in his corner he was only going to achieve great things. He has become a natural icon in Canada and is listed in Canada's Top 100 Greatest Canadians.
Bret took wrestling to new heights during the attitude era and in the early 90's he showed the world that you don;t have to have the biggest arms in the world to be a wrestler just as long as you can entertain a crowd then sky is the limit.
he recently made his triumphant return to the company that turned their back on him, whilst he may not have the wrestling abilities he once had, the presence alone of the hitman is more then worth the admission fee alone.
Greatest Mexican Wrestler
7 of 50
Like Bret Hart, Eddie Guerrero has managed to show people in America and the World that the Mexicans are in fact the true pioneers of wrestling.
Eddie had a long and gracious life in the ring, while his personal problems effected him dearly it never stopped him from delivering his 100% focus and determination to he Wrestling universe. As long as he was breathing he would make sure that the Fans got the moneys worth.
Eddie may have only won one major championship in his career, however he will be remembered more for what he did for the sport and for Mexican Wrestling as a whole.
Greatest Japanese Wrestler
8 of 50
Jushin Liger maybe an icon in Japan, however Ultimo Dragon is a legend in his own right. he hold the record for the only wrestler to have held 12 different championships at the same time. Like Luger he has also innovated moves which wrestlers such as Jeff Hardy, Tajiri and others use today i.e. Asai Moonsault, Osaka Driver.
Ultimo made a brief appearance for the WWE in 2003 after he had signed a one year contract with the company in the hopes of fulfilling his life long dream to compete at a Wrestlemania event, he accomplished this at Wrestlemania 20 when he took part in the first ever Cruiserweight invitational, although he came up short he definitely showed the world how great and talented he is.
The Greatest Black Wrestler
9 of 50
It is no doubt or questions as to why The Rock is considered the greatest Black Wrestler ever in the WWE. He was a huge star in the late 90's early 00's. He was instrumental to the success of the WWE during the Monday Night Wars, he along with Mick Foley use to garner some of the highest rated segments in RAW and Smackdown history.
With a wide following The Rock has electrified audiences all over the world, he is a former 9 Time World Champion, Royal Rumble Winner, IC and Tag Team Champion. In 2000 he and HHH has one of the greatest feuds in the History of the sport, it changed wrestling for ever as it brought in a whole range of different audiences and crowds.
The Rock was and still is the greatest man to ever hold a Microphone to his mouth. His catch phrases and taunts are still used today in movies, wrestling and in schools world wide. My Only hope is that The Rock will eventually get inducted into the WWE HOF as he is one of those Legends that although gone for now he will never be forgotten.
The Greatest Showman
10 of 50
Shawn Michaels is not called the Show Stopper for nothing, every match he takes part in he ensures that he gives his 100% focus and mentality to the match. He has given us some great 5 star matches in his career, especially with the likes of Bret Hart, Razor Ramon, HHH and most recently the Undertaker.
His personal character has helped him become the greatest showman in the sport, with his cocky attitude and over the top antics he always manages to make the most out of a bad situation. His match with Shelton Benjamin is proof that no matter who he is facing he will give us his all.
The Most Charismatic Wrestler
11 of 50
Christian maybe nicknamed Captain Charisma however when compared to Y2J, he does not even come close.
The former 9 time IC Champion, is one for the ages, it is very rare that you can enter a locker room and a find a wrestler who has it all, great attitude, great in ring ability, looks, and of course charisma.
His ability to create a reaction from an audience whether he is a heel or face just proves how talented he truly is.
Wrestlemania's Greatest Superstar
12 of 50
Hogan may have been featured as a Main Event more times then any other superstar at Wrestlemania, however The Undertaker has made Wrestlemana his Legacy and his yard.
Out of the 26 Wrestlemania The Undertaker has appeared in 18 of them and remarkably has never lost a single one of them.
Here is a list of his 18 Victims.
1. Jimmy Super Fly Snuka
2. Jake "The Snake" Roberts
3. Giant Gonzalez
4. King Kong Bundy
5. Diesel
6. Sid Vicious
7. Kane
8. Big Boss Man
9. HHH
10. Ric Flair
11. Big Show & A-Train
12. Kane
13. Randy Orton
14. Mark Henry
15. Batista
16. Edge
17. HBK
18. HBK
Greatest Royal Rumble Contender
13 of 50
Kane maybe the most successful man to have never won a Royal Rumble in terms of personal records set at the event. However Austin has done one better, he has managed to win the competition a staggering 3 times.
He won the Competition in
Greatest King Of The Ring Champion
14 of 50
Owen Maybe Nicknamed the King of harts however Bret Hart seems more fitted to take this tile away from his younger brother. he won not one but two King of the Ring Tournaments, A feat that has never been accomplished by any superstar to this date.
During these competitions the crowds managed to see glimpses of the rising star known as Bret Hart.
Bret Hart won the tournaments in 1991 and 1993
Greatest Money In The Bank Champion
15 of 50
CM Punk maybe one hated guy at the moment however during his reigns as MITB Champion, it allowed us to see an insight into the ROH star, Punk successfully cashed in his titles on both occasions.
Greatest WWE Champion
16 of 50
Sammartino did something that today is conidered an impossible feat, he went approximately 2,803 days as the WWE Champion.
Along with this record he smashed yet another record, by becoming MSG most successful sell out star. He defended his title to many a opponent including Ivan Koloff who he would eventually lose the title to.
He will definitely be regarded as one of the best WWE champions the game has to date, his contribution to the sport made it the spectacle what it is today.
Greatest WCW Champion
17 of 50
Ric Flair has won the Big one an earth shattering 16 times, with 2 WWE reins and 14 WCW/NWA reigns.
He faced the likes of Sting, Dusty Rhodes, Ricky Steamboat and a host full of other surging superstars who were willing to make their mark in the business. Flair was not seen as a typical wrestler to many of the fans back then he lacked muscle, size and power, however Flair had great character and personal to go with it. when you have these two things and an opportunity then anyone can become great.
During his time as the WCW Champion, Flair created the stable the Four Horseman, he also gained the nickname of the most dirtiest player in the game, from this point on the legacy of the nature boy became synonymous with wrestling.
Greatest ECW Champion
18 of 50
RVD for me can be considered the greatest ECW Champion because he is one of the biggest names to come out of the business and still manifest a huge following around him.
Nicknamed the Whole Dam Show, RVD created many spectacular moments during ECW's tenure, he along with Sabu, Tazz and others made ECW a huge success, however after the demise of the company. RVD brought his ECW ways to other organisations and in 2005 he won the newly re opened ECW Championship.
Greatest Heel
19 of 50
Piper is regarded as the greatest heel in wrestling. His antics and character has demonstrated to the world just that if you act like an idiot you will get handsomely rewarded.
Piper, although Canadian, was portrayed as a rough Scotsman who hated everything and everyone in his path.
During a time when everyone was a face, the company needed a villain, and Vince decided he needed Piper.
Piper created such moments as Piper's Pit where he would bring on guests such Snuka and Andre but only to have them beaten to a bloody pulp, well not Andre but you get the picture. To this day, many have tried but no one will come close to Piper and Evil.
Greatest Anti-Hero
20 of 50
Orton started off small; he debuted as the son of Bob Orton and slowly worked his way to becoming The Viper and current WWE Champion.
His greatest moment or transition was most probably The Legend Killer persona, which allowed Orton to showcase his talents against some of the most iconic wrestlers known today such as Undertaker, The Rock, Austin, Flair and Mankind amongst others.
His time in the Evolution stable helped him develop other aspects of his wrestling lifestyle such as mic work and chemistry.
He is arguably alongside Cena, one of the two alpha males of WWE at the moment.
Greatest Face
21 of 50
Hogan was able to become the cult hero is today by defeating the undefeated seven-foot Andre the Giant. This turned the balding wrestler into a Superman-like character.
He became a positive influence to many children around the world and has inspired many wrestlers to become wrestlers such as Edge.
Vince decided that would everything going on around the world today's such as wars, violence and hate, it would be something special if I could create an hero that people could rely on so he looked no further then Hulk Hogan.
To this day, no one can even come close to just how big a star Hogan was and still is.
Like Cena and Rock, Hogan was one of the first wrestlers to appear on movies and TV shows.
His most memorable moment is when he appeared in Rocky, a movie which starred hard man Sylvester Stallone, it made people want to see who would win a boxer or a wrestler and that's is how wrestling became then became known as the golden era.
Greatest Match
22 of 50
For me there was no greater match then Brock Lesnar Vs. Kurt Angle in a 60min Iron Man Match, which aired during a Smackdown Broadcast.
Two of the most gifted wrestlers in the company put on an incredible show with both men giving it their very all, with great counter attack wrestling along with power, technical and the odd chair shot or 2 it was every thing you could ask for in a wrestling match.
While Bret Hart VS. Bulldog, or undertaker VS. HBK are all considered great matches I honestly feel that none have come as close to topping this incredible match, to have quality of that magnitude for 60min is incredible.
The Greatest Entertainer
23 of 50
The Rock in my books is the greatest entertainer the business has ever come across since its inception in the early 50's. We have seen many greats in our time such as Andy Kauffman, Ric Flair, Jericho, Austin, HBK etc, yet no one has managed to create such an electric atmosphere then the peoples champ himself.
What made him stand out out was his impressive verbal communication/chemistry he had with his opponents and the crowds, he was able to make an arena duplicate his every word with a single gesture or taunt.
His catch phrases and antics are used all over the world and even on some TV-Shows, due to his amazing entertaining skills he has managed to make the jump into Hollywood and in turn has become the most successful wrestler to enter the acting life.
Greatest Tandem
24 of 50
Suppose it is how you look at wrestling to know who the greatest tandem is, for some it maybe Trish and Rock because they were the two hot topics of that time or it could be HHH and Chyna however for me it will always be Savage and Elizabeth.
They changed wrestling for the better and paved the way for other valets to become a major driving force in the company.
Greatest Female Wrestler
25 of 50
I no i should of put Trish or Moolah however for me Lita is the best.
She can out wrestle any of the women well maybe not Natalaya.
Greatest Father & Son Combination
26 of 50
There were many to choose for this slide such as The Rock and Rocky Johnson or The Orton's however I believe we should look no further then the heart and soul of the WWE the McMahon's.
they have given us so many great moment in and out of the ring.
Shane has put on some of the greatest wrestling matches known to man, his match with Angle at KOTR in my book falls just short behind Lesnar vs Angle. his Leap of Faith has left the audience is shock as well as amazed with just how talented the Boss's son is.
Vince has the mind of a genius as well the character of a lord.
Greatest Manager
27 of 50
ill let you decide on this one, for me its Heenan he gave a whole new meaning to the work Manage.
Most Jaw Dropping Moment
28 of 50
Wow
What a moment in Wrestling, for any fan it changed the way we looked at wrestler's, after this match Mankind and undertaker became icons and global sensations in the WWE.
I Won't discuss this slide much because if you ar a real wrestling fan then you should no just how great and epic this moment was, I dare you to find another WWE moment that was more jaw dropping then this, please don't say HHH vs Mankind in the hell in the Cell.
Most Overrated Wrestler
29 of 50
Before Cena fans start throwing tantrums, all I am saying is that I feel Cena is the most overrated wrestler love him or hate him it is the truth, if you can't see this then you are blind.
He can't wrestle and he most certainly can't cut a promo, maybe I am being a tad harsh on him I mean if not for him, what ever he does and however he does it its working somewhere.
Most Underrated Wrestler
30 of 50
I was going to put Rude or Perfect but I said I would go for someone who the IWC agrees with.
Christian was the ECW championship for a while however due to the lack of TV time or acknowledgement that came with that championship we have yet to see his full potential as a champion. Only I Vince watched some TNA when Christian was a part of that organization he will only know what he is missing out on
Greatest Super Heavyweight Wrestler
31 of 50
Big Show is the only man to do a lot of things, like hold the WWE, WCW and ECW title to name a few.
Show is definitely more fluid and athletic in the ring compared with Andre.
For his size, he can do more and has managed to stay at the top of the mountain for several years.
The Greatest Hardcore Wrestler
32 of 50
Can you think of anyone else?
Greatest Match Gimmick
33 of 50
Anything involving a ladder, is a shoe in for match candidate of the year.
Whether it is a MITB match or a TLC match every wrestler manages to put on a great show for the audience.
Greatest Gimmick
34 of 50
The Undertaker or Mark Calloway previously wrestled for the WCW before he made the witch to the WWE. In this time the WCW managed to make a real mockery from what would be one of the greatest wrester's and icons in the business today.
Undertaker debut in the WWE in 1990, during a time where characters such as Hogan and Savage were running the show, so how do you create a character so unique an different and throw him into a pack of wild lions only to come out of there alive?
Well its simple create a man who is already dead, that's right create an Undertaker. His character was such a huge success that he had followers from all over the world coming into watch the Deadman in action. Perhaps the greatest piece of creative thinking was having this 7ft man coming in and defeating The American Hero Hulk Hogan for the WWE title within his first year in the company. This impressed a lot of people who at the time must of felt that wrestling was real so obviously majority of the WWE Universe will cheer the Top dog just look at Hogan.
They also have Undertaker a nice background which allowed them to build around is character for instance the introduction of Kane his younger brother, Casket matches, Hell in a cell matches, Inferno matches and buried alive matches, all of which suited the big mans criteria. Lastly by giving Taker the streak it has made him a Legend to a point that if he were to be defeated at Mania then Wrestling would die along with him.
Greatest Wrestling Stable
35 of 50
Evolution had so much talent just spewing success.
Unlike D-X, NWO or The Four-horseman, Evolution had was something different they had power, youth, leadership and experience. With each superstar getting massive pushes it helped the stable achieve great things.
Greatest Brothers In Wrestling
36 of 50
Owen Hart was everything that you wanted in a wrestler, he was agile, quick, and talented and one of the most energetic guys you could ever find in the ring.
I feel that if Bret was not so popular then perhaps Owen would have been given more opportunities o succeed at the top. Even Bret said that Owe could do more in the ring then any of his brothers including him. Owen should have been given the title during one of his many feuds with Bret this would have created a much more exacting and emotional feud somewhat like undertaker and Kane’s now.
Bret was never really taken seriously upon his arrival in WWE. I mean wrestling was all about one thing, muscles, and Bret obviously lacked the goods.
Vince however thought otherwise, by biding his time he managed to make Bret the greatest face in the wrestling world for over 15 years. Once Hogan and company left WWE, there was an opening for a new wrestler to take the brass ring,
Bret was called on as Vince's prodigy. Small for his size, Bret managed to use to put on some of the greatest matches in the world. His feud with HBK and the British Bulldog were some glimpses of just how great once can be.
Bret was also part of the Hart Foundation, a Canadian group who despised America and adored Canada. This allowed Wrestling to go into a whole new direction i.e. The Attitude Era.
Bret said himself " Vince told me WCW would never know what to do with a Bret Hart; how right he wa
Most Toughest Wrestler
37 of 50
No list is complete without the Tonga Prince Haku.
Haku was a major force in the late 80's throughout the mid 90's. He was noted as one of the most brutish and toughest men in the business today.
When reporters asked the likes of Hogan, Diesel, Undertaker, Goldberg, Bret Hart and others who they felt was the toughest man in the wrestling world is, they all replied "Meng/Haku"
Although humble at heart, if you crossed the big man you had to be prepared to get your nose or eye literally ripped of your face. Jimmy Jack Funk is proof of this.
He along with Andre The giant won the tag team titles in the WWE, under the tag name The Colossal Connection, without a doubt one of the most powerful tag teams in the history of the WWE.
Although he never won much championships during his tenure as a wrestler, he did however create some of the biggest moments and stories that will never be forgotten until the end of time
Greatest Masked Wrestler
38 of 50
Tiger Mask
For me he is the greatest mask wrestler to have ever lived, why well he managed to put on some great matches with the likes of Bret Hart and Dynamite Kid. Mask was the only man to have won the WWE Junior Heavyweight Championship and the NWA Junior Heavyweight Championship.
His mentor is the great Antonio inoki, a former WWE Champion and HOF.
Greatest Commentator
39 of 50
Jim Ross is the voice of wrestling, he is regarded by all wrestlers and fans a like as the greatest commentator in the world. He was inducted into the HOF a couple of years ago and has recently retired and taken a step back from the hectic schedule.
Ross also has a keen eye for talent he signed the likes of Austin and The Rock.
Greatest Submission Move
40 of 50
The Crippler Crossface is one of the most deadliest maneuvers in wrestling.
Dean Malenko gave it to Chris Benoit to use and it became known as Benoit's finisher.
Greatest Wrestling Move
41 of 50
This variation of a belly-to-belly piledriver refers to any belly-to-belly piledriver that involves the wrestler holding the opponent in a belly-to-belly position, then falling to a kneeling position. The name "Tombstone Piledriver" was popularized by The Undertaker, and later Kane
Greatest Feud In Wrestling
42 of 50
Both men with a great history.
Two of the sharpest guys in their peak, they were massive influences in the sport, although heir feud ended in displeasure. However their matches were great, intense, and full of excitement.
Bret Hart was seen as the favorite between the two. however when HBK wrestled he changed the views of the fans across the world.
Greatest Era In Wrestling
43 of 50
For me this was the single greatest moment in wrestling. Whoever was brought up during this time was blessed with some of the most entertaining moments in wrestling today. With guys such as the Rock, Mankind, Taker and others calling the shots who would not be entertained.
It allowed WWE to expand in the gaming world, they created several games such as WWE attitude, Warzone and of course Smackdown, these games are regarded as some of the best selling games in the history of game consoles.
Great Moments:
The Rock This is your life
Rock vs HHH
Coming of Kane
Vince Vs Austin
Greatest Creative Mind
44 of 50
Paul Heyman, like his rivals Vince and Eric are all great thinkers and geniuses when it comes to wrestling.
However for me Paul has the edge on all of them, he manged to turn Edge, Lesnar, Cena, Rey, Eddie and others into stars.
He also created ECW.
Greatest PPV
45 of 50
What a spectacle this was, every match from start to finish was of such high quality. With the TLC, Rock vs Austin and Taker VS HHH match taking center stage other matches such Benoit vs Angle and Kane vs Raven and Big Show also managed to amaze and grasp me to the edge of my seat it is a real shame they don't make em like this no more.
Greatest Segment In Wrestling
46 of 50
During a Raw segment back in 1999, we were treated to a special edition of This is your Life a special event held by Mankind in witch he toasted the life of his tag partner the Rock. We would see glimpses of the Great One's past as his Old school teacher, gym teacher and ex girlfriend came out to celebrate proceedings.
TO the Rock's dismay the celebration ended after The Rock made a fool out of Mankind. it was one of the most entertaining and exciting promos we have ever seen, it was so good that it went longer then expected, normally Vince would not let something like this happen however it gave him the Highest Rated Segment of that Time as it reached 8.41 on the Ratings
Greatest Catch Phrase
47 of 50
My personal favorite catch phrase has to be
"if you smell what the rock is cooking"
When the Rock says those exact words you just no hell is about to turn over.
Greatest Pop In Wrestling
48 of 50I will leave this one for the section
Greatest Debut
49 of 50After his unappreciated spell with the WCW in the mid 90's, Jericho finally decided to jump to rival show WWE after signing a contract with the company in 1999.
After a series of vintages of a countdown clock appearing on the titantron during and in between matches indicating the countdown to the millennium, the WWE universe was curious as to what was transpiring.
Then during a promo that took place on Aug. 9, 1999, we were finally introduced to the already established superstar Chris Jericho.
The crowd went insane, they could not believe there eyes as one of WCW's guys were standing in front of the Titantron whilst the People's Champion, The Rock, was in the ring.
Just to show you how great of a star Jericho is, for a debut he was electric, personally I feel no one has ever come close to duplicating what Jericho did that night.
He was composed, energetic and certainly charismatic, he put on a great display of character as he wooed the Chicago audience, the chemistry he created with the Rock was certainly special.
It was a great moment in history and the star of a great career in the WWE for a talent that is Jericho.
Greatest Organisation
50 of 50
WWE for all the above reasons.
