Arjen Robben to Miss Rest of 2010 Due to World Cup Thigh Injury
Bayern Munich has received a terrible piece of bad news today when it was revealed that star winger Arjen Robben will miss the rest of the 2010 calendar year due to a thigh injury that was re-aggravated during the World Cup.
During the World Cup, Robben missed the entire group stage for the Netherlands due to the thigh injury he picked up against Hungary in a pre-World Cup friendly.
However, Robben came in during the round of 16 for the Dutch and did not turn his back, as he scored two goals in four matches as he helped to lead the Netherlands to their third World Cup final, which they lost to Spain by a 1-0 score in extra time.

But after the World Cup, it was revealed that Robben re-aggravated the thigh injury during the World Cup, and was going to miss the beginning of the season for Bayern Munich.
As a result, Bayern has been angered by Holland's decision to play Robben during the World Cup knowing that he was carrying the injury and the club is now seeking compensation from the Dutch Football Association.
But now, everything appears even worse than previously imagined as in a recent interview with the German daily Bild, Bayern Munich's director of sport Christian Nerlinger said, "The healing process is unsatisfactory. It will take a long time before Arjen is fit again," and "it is more than questionable whether Arjen will be able to play for us in the Bundesliga's round of matches before Christmas."
Of course, Robben's injury is a tremendous blow to the defending Bundesliga champions, who just suffered their first competitive defeat of the season on Friday night when they were shocked 2-0 at Kaiserslautern.
Last season, Robben was a major contributor to Bayern's double winning side, and helped Die Roten reach their first Champions League final since 2001, where they lost to Inter Milan by a 2-0 score.
