ROH Makes Huge Announcement For Glory By Honor IX

Mr. Ashley MorrisAug 2, 2010

There's no need to beat around the bush. Apparently, at the conclusion of tonight's episode of ROH on HDNet , a dream match was announced for the company's upcoming iPay-Per-View on September 11.

Click here to see the video of this MAJOR announcement.

That's right, ladies and gentlemen. Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin are coming to ROH, and they're set to face The Kings of Wrestling—Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Hero.

Finally, something to really get excited about in pro wrestling!

In a moment of self-congratulatory and pompous showboating, I submit to my loyal and opinionated B/R family, my piece from April 23, 2010. In this piece, I essentially spent an incalculable amount of time waxing poetically about how it would be akin to career suicide for any of the released WWE Superstars to make their jaunt to Orlando, FL.

Shelton Benjamin was one of these individuals, and some fans assumed that TNA would be the logical choice for this beast of a pro wrestler.

Apparently, Benjamin, Cary Silkin, and the wrestling gods heard my plea and responded in time accordingly.

Regarding Benjamin's release from the WWE, I honestly felt that the man belonged in an organization that would not only recognize his talent, but would also give him the opportunity to prove his worth in an organization that is known for showcasing some of the best pro wrestlers in the business.

That place, my friends, is not TNA.

Add Charlie Haas to this equation, and you have a situation and a match that is bound to keep fans attention for weeks and months to come, even if it only lasts seven minutes.

Unlike the cookie-cutter, paint-by-numbers WWE matches and the ADHD-friendly TNA matches, I can guarantee you this bout is destined to last longer than a bathroom break or a quick trip to 7-Eleven.

Highly recognized as one of the best tag teams in pro wrestling, the duo of Haas, and Benjamin are set to make quite an impact in ROH come September 11. In fact, fans are encouraged to make their predictions as soon as possible.

In an era of cumbersome invasions and Rolling Stones-esque reunion tours, it is very refreshing to receive news of this magnitude in light of two upcoming pay-per-views that feel more like indentured servitude than exciting in-ring action.

This was the point all along regarding Benjamin's release from the WWE. If we, the rabid fans, agree that Benjamin was underutilized and unappreciated in the WWE, then surely he'd fare better at showcasing his talent in ROH instead of floundering in obscurity in TNA.

If you think I'm pulling your leg, check out Ian Malone's piece on Desmond Wolfe's rise to mediocrity in Orlando, Florida.

Will this match or this pay-per-view make a blip on Vince McMahon or Dixie Carter's radar? All signs point to no.

However, I'm sure this match and this pay-per-view will most assuredly expose the main problem facing both the WWE and TNA:

The severe lack of exhilarating, engaging, and pure non-stop professional wrestling action.

I'm not sure about you, but I've got a lot of work to do to make sure I'm primed and ready for September 11.
