Bellator 28... (Almost) Off To a Good Start
It really sucks when you've got something good ahead of you, but then something ruins it.
Bjorn Rebney had just acquired former UFC veteran Rich "No Love" Clementi and the powers-that-be in Belaltor lined up Clementi with Carey Vanier in a lightweight tournament qualifier at Bellator 28.
The winner of the presumably-planned second lightweight tournament will contend with either Pat Curran or Eddie Alvarez at a to-be-announced time.
Now the thing that is a drag-down for Rebney is that featherweight standout Georgi Karakhanyan has been left without an opponent about as quickly as he had gotten one.
Texas-based ground specialist Chas Skelly was forced out of Bellator 28's season four Featherweight qualifier with a foot injury.
No doubt Skelly would have presented a few issues for Karakhanyan to iron out in the quest to get back into the Featherweight tournament contention.
A replacement opponent has yet to be found, but Karakhanyan is still slated to compete when Bellator 28 comes to the Mahalia Jackson Theatre For The Performing Arts in New Orleans Louisiana on September 9th.
For those who have not seen Karakhanyan in action before, you could get your chance to see what this exciting former pro soccer player can do in the cage.
Whoever does face Georgi in the cage must remember that in sixteen professional bouts, only one fight has ended in a stalemate while the only two losses on his record have been decision losses to Joe Warren and Chris David.
Karakhanyan has never been knocked out or submitted in his career.
To the guy that faces him next, good luck trying to be the first.
