Money in the Bank 2010 Predictions: To Whom Will the Checks Be Made Out?

Justin YoungJul 18, 2010

Money in the Bank 2010 is a pay-per-view promised to be so amazing that Drew McIntyre even said that if anyone in attendance didn't think so, he would personally give them a refund.

For the first time, two Money in the Bank ladder matches will be featured in the same pay-per-view, one from each brand. Also, there are five title matches on the card for the event.

Let's look at the card:

With Jayson Tatum sidelined, Celtics' fourth-quarter comeback falls short in Game 7 loss to 76ers

1) WWE Divas Championship: Alicia Fox (c) vs. Eve

Eve was granted a rematch last Monday night by the anonymous Raw GM since Fox feigned an injury to one-up her opponent. Alicia has certainly surprised me since Fatal Four Way, and as much as I want to see Eve reclaim the gold, I believe Fox will ultimately retain it.

Winner: Alicia Fox (retains title)

2) WWE Women's Championship: Layla (c) vs. Kelly Kelly

I'm honestly sick of this "co-Women's Champion" thing between Lay-Cool. And in my opinion, Kelly is due for a singles title (see my article on those who will be a champion in 2010). A botched interference from Michelle McCool-Taker will prove to be Lay-Cool's downfall as Kelly captures the gold.

Winner: Kelly Kelly (new Women's Champion)

3) WWE Unified Tag Team Championship: The Hart Dynasty vs. The Usos

The Hart Dynasty lately has suffered from what I like to call "Swagger Syndrome." They begin to look bad on television, but defy the odds and pull off an amazing pay-per-view performance. In the end, the Usos will one day be tag champs, but not tonight. Hart Attack ends it rather quickly.

Winners: The Hart Dynasty (retains title)

4) Smackdown Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Kane vs. Big Show vs. Christian vs. Kofi Kingston (IC Champ) vs. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Matt Hardy

Despite his performance in the WM26 match, I'm ruling out Kofi Kingston. History shows that since its inception at Wrestlemania 21, no titleholder has ever seized the briefcase.

I'm also scratching out Kane. His current storyline about trying to find the one who incapacitated his brother is the main thing for him right now. Big Show may have a little trouble unless he brings out that weird-looking ladder built to support his weight.

Cody Rhodes is doing well on his second singles run, but I think he needs to get a little more experience by going down the Intercontinental title path before he can become a World Heavyweight Champion. Same case can be made for Ziggler.

So that leaves Christian, Drew, and Matt. Matt and Christian both have an edge over McIntyre simply because of their history in tag team ladder and TLC matches. In the end, a battle on the ladder results in Captain Charisma getting his moment.

Winner: Christian

5) RAW Money in the Bank Ladder Match: The Miz (US Champ) vs. Ted DiBiase vs. Mark Henry vs. Edge vs. Randy Orton vs. Chris Jericho vs. Evan Bourne vs. John Morrison

Again, I'm ruling out Miz, despite his amazing storyline with Orton and R-Truth. And seeing him win, then cash in at the end of the night would look pretty sad.

Mark Henry? I don't see him getting a WWE title in the near future unless it's a Tag match. He's had many unsuccessful chances for the U.S. title against Miz already.

Despite Evan Bourne's push, I think he's mainly in the match to make it electrifying. Ladder matches are pretty much the best places to display cruiserweight-like moves. Jericho has been reduced to jobbing to Bourne on three occasions, so giving a world title to him wouldn't make sense.

The final four? Edge, Orton, DiBiase, and Morrison. Edge and Orton will be too busy beating up on each other throughout the match to have enough time to claim the case, so it'll come down to DiBiase and Morrison. DiBiase has got a really good thing going, and to be honest, he is my pick for the win. I correctly picked Swagger for WM26, so I'm hoping that this year I go 3-for-3.

Winner: Ted DiBiase

6) WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Rey Mysterio (c) vs. Jack Swagger

Look at the facts: Swagger was an unbelievable champion, but he could get the job done, and he is now getting a bigger crowd reaction than he did during his title reign. Rey-Rey was added to the Fatal Four Way match as a replacement for Undertaker and pinned Swagger to win his second world championship.

But while I like the underdog story, I have always liked Swagger's character. I believe that getting the title back from the man who pinned him last month will be motivation enough to connect with the gut-wrenching power bomb and pin the ultimate underdog.

Winner: Jack Swagger (new World Champion)

7) WWE Championship Steel Cage Match: John Cena vs. Sheamus (c)

This will be a true test of Sheamus' skills. There will be no outside interference, no "lucky breaks," as Cena put it; it will be a chance for Sheamus to try to beat Cena enough to earn a legitimate win over him.

This time, there will be no Nexus around to get in the ring, although I'm sure if there were, Cena and Sheamus would again work together to take them out. With Cena's experience, he will somehow escape this brutal match as WWE Champion once again.

Winner: John Cena (new WWE Champion)

But wait, what's this? DiBiase comes out with Maryse and a referee, cashes in his briefcase, and demands a title match! But since Cena was outside the ring, he will be able to recuperate enough to end it quickly by making the Fortunate Son tap out to the STFU (that's right, the STFU).

Winner: John Cena (retains title)

Well, I know you have differing opinions, so leave comments and let me know what you think, or leave your own predictions below.
