Vitor Belfort: Back and Ready for MMA UFC Middleweight Championship
The Phenom is back, and he wants his shot.
He doesn't mind if it's Chael Sonnen or Anderson Silva that holds the belt after UFC 117, because he's only focused on his shot at the title he was supposed to have last Fall.
Fanhouse MMA reports that Belfort will return to the cage at 100 percent when he makes his UFC return this November, and while he'd like to be standing across the cage from "The Spider", he'd also have zero qualms about standing across the cage from Sonnen.
As a matter of fact, to say that Vitor might really want to silence Sonnen could be an understatement.
Said Belfort, according to Fanhouse (via Tatame, with whom Belfort originally spoke):
"There's nothing to say, right? I'm a person of few words. I don't like this kind of promotion, mainly because Minotauro and Minotouro are wonderful persons, great athletes, also don't speak to much, they're respectful, have never disrespected anybody... I got a little upset about it. You reap what you sow, so that's it. I have nothing else to say, I'm not that kind of guy."
At least Belfort respects Minotauro and Little Nog.
Surely, Belfort also respects what both men would bring to the dance should they walk out of the Oracle Arena in Oakland with the UFC Middleweight Belt.
Silva, despite those pain-in-the-ass shenanigans that he's been showcasing since his UFC 90 bout with Patrick Cote and only abandoned for his UFC 101 bout with Forrest Griffin, is still considered to be the most dangerous pinpoint striker in MMA aside from Wanderlei Silva and Mauricio Rua.
Of course, with three consecutive victories in the Octagon since his UFC 95 loss to Demian Maia, Chael Sonnen's own abilities in the cage have no longer been ignored.
Sonnen possesses the one style that many have known to be the kryptonite of Silva, and that style is wrestling—a style in which Chael doesn't exactly do poorly in.
His submission defense leaves little to nothing to be desired in its own right as shown in his UFC 109 upset win over heavily favored Greg Jackson wrecking machine Nate Marquardt.
On paper and in the fine print of things, Vitor will not be contending with any unfamiliar style, as past opponents of Belfort possessed either fearsome Muay Thai or fluid wrestling.
Rich Franklin was the only fighter to possess something close to a combination of both skills, though their UFC 103 bout never saw much of Franklin's ability in either practice in its duration.
Whichever fighter stands across the cage from Belfort will bring a style that Vitor will recognize and be prepared for.
Silva, Sonnen, it makes no difference.
The Phenom, Vitor Belfort is back. He wants the UFC MIddleweight Championship belt.
Worst of all... He's at 100 percent.
