Tuesdays at TNA: Should LAX Reunite?
Welcome to Tuesdays at TNA, where we discuss the hottest topics in Dixieland!
Since the early days of Total Nonstop Action, they have electrified audiences with an astounding blend of agility, power, and violence as they dominated the tag team title scene.
They had memorable feuds and excited fans in both the United States and Latin America by mixing a brutal power attack with technical ability not seen in most tag teams.
From having their own entrance to laying their respective countries' flags on their fallen opponents, they possessed a unique style that transcended to fans of multiple cultures.
Of course I'm talking about Hernandez and Homicide, otherwise known as The Latin American Xchange. They became a team more than five years ago, but were known in the beginning due to the incessant heat brought on by manager Konnan.
Although many saw the gimmick being nothing more than a response to the then-immigration debates that were going on, LAX quickly used that to propel themselves to the top of the tag team mountain in TNA.
In 2006, they came to prominence when they feuded with AJ Styles and Christopher Daniels, in what many called the best feud of the year.
They would battle back and forth with a number of teams in TNA over the next two years before management decided it was best for LAX to go their separate ways.
However, in light of recent events and the shifting that is taking place in TNA, is it time to reunite LAX?
Usually when partners reunite, it could be for a variety of reasons, mostly because management really has nothing better for them to do at this time. However, since LAX split, their success as singles has been marginal at best.
While Hernandez recently won his feud with Matt Morgan, he has basically been relegated to the mid-card, while Homicide's greatest feat has been botching the Terrordome match on Impact a few months ago.
Why would it be a good idea to bring them back? One reason would be to liven up the tag team scene now that the Motor City Machine Guns are (finally!) the champs after beating Beer Money at Sunday's Victory Road PPV.
Since Team 3D is going through their own internal battles, TNA needs a team that can become that second challenger to the MCMGs outside of Beer Money.
Generation Me is seen as a modern day Naturals, a talented but lower level tag team, so they won't be able to fill the void.
Also, all of the singles title scenes are so muddled right now with contenders that as individual competitors Hernandez and Homicide wouldn't be able to make a dent in the ranks.
There is no reason these talented individuals, whose mic skills have improved greatly since their early days, should be left to curtain-jerking matches on Impact.
Imagine a three-way feud (four, if you want to count Ink Inc.) between MCMGs as the faces, Beer Money as the heels, and a reunited LAX as the tweeners.
Not only would the promos be grand, but the matches themselves would be on a level not seen in years when it came to tag team battles.
For the good of TNA, and for themselves, I say reunite LAX. Also, here's a clip to remember them by:
