Seantrel Henderson: For Once, Lane Kiffin Did the Right Thing
I never thought I'd see the day.
For what seems like the first time in his coaching career, Lane Kiffin finally did the right thing—he let Seantrel Henderson go free.
The University of Southern California head coach released the 6'8" 350-lb offensive lineman from his national letter of intent after falsely reassuring Henderson that the Trojans wouldn't be sanctioned.
Any respectable coach would do this, but I couldn't help but get a little wide-eyed when I read that Kiffin actually let the big fella go.
Kiffin, the master of shams and dishonesty, actually put a player before himself?
Don't forget that this is a guy who told his incoming Tennessee recruits to enroll early, only to ditch them for USC. And this is the same man that claimed Florida head coach Urban Meyer violated recruiting rules, which turned out to be completely untrue.
Obviously, this is somebody who can't be trusted.
But for once Kiffin actually made a right out of one of his wrongs. While he's not exactly giving Mother Teresa a run for her money, at least it's a step in the right direction for the self-centered coach.
I'm still skeptical though.
Since there was video evidence, it was clear that Kiffin was caught red-handed making a false reassurance to Henderson, perhaps the most prized recruit in the country. It's a definite possibility that the USC coach did what he did as a result of there being proof of his lies.
Either way, I'm still satisfied by Kiffin's decision to allow the Cretin-Derham Hall (MN) graduate to sign elsewhere. It shows the man has at least some semblance of a conscience.
One small step for man, one giant leap for Lane Kiffin.
