The Focus on TNA Talents
Since the Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff takeover of TNA Wrestling, we have seen some of wrestling's biggest names sign with the company, new story lines, record ratings, and change. On the downside we have also seen the slowing of the X-Division, questionable booking of talent, a struggling Monday night product, and other issues.
Over the past few months, I believe there have been a few holes TNA needs to fix before the problems expand. Here are three random topics TNA needs to look at.
TNA’s X-DIVISION STRUGGLE
I feel that TNA was growing in popularity due to its X-Division. However, in recent times, the division is not what it used to be. Too much is being focused on Brian Kendrick and Doug Williams.
Where has Amazing Red been? How about Suicide? Why is Kazarian with Ric Flair's heel group and no longer in the division? For a second, I thought he quietly left the company.
TNA needs to get back into booking quality matches in the X-Division that bring tons of excitement to the ring by adding Amazing Red, Homicide, and others.
RIC FLAIR’S FORTUNE TALENTS
Flair’s heel group, called “Fortune” may be something similar to WWE’s past successful “Evolution” era. “Fortune” features a 16-time world champion, a former heavyweight champion in AJ Styles, a talented tag team in Beer Money, and Kazarian.
How is Desmond Wolfe is not in this group? TNA had him lose to Jay Lethal, who is getting the biggest push of his career.
Wolfe should be in this group over Kazarian. Wolfe, in many people’s eyes, is a future champion, and having Kazarian over Desmond doesn’t make sense, at least in my eyes. This storyline could be a very good one as long as it is booked correctly.
OLDER STARS TV TIME USAGE
Since its successful Monday Night iMPACT! episode on January 4th, TNA has introduced many big names that include Jeff Hardy, Rob Van Dam, Ric Flair, Scott Hall, Sean Waltman, Tommy Dreamer, and more. Despite its up-and-down ratings in 2010, TNA awareness has risen with the addition of those established stars.
However, viewers have been upset with the TV time older stars have been receiving. Since returning back to Thursday nights, we have seen less TV time from the older stars and the focus has turned to promoting TNA's monthly pay-per-views.
Despite the decision to put the tag team belts on the now defunct “The Band” faction (largely due to Hall’s arrest and firing), I certainly do not mind seeing established, older names but let them serve the purpose of helping TNA grow.
Part two of "The Focus on TNA Talents" will be released following TNA iMPACT! on Saturday, July 3rd. Enjoy this week's iMPACT! and my recap and thoughts on the show will be out this Friday.
