NBA Draft 2010: Is John Wall a Superstar, an All-Star or Even a Sure Thing?
At tonight's NBA draft a few things are relative "locks."
Someone will wear an outrageously tasteless suit that will look like it came straight out of the Craig Sager collection.
Someone will give David Stern an incredibly awkward hug.
Someone will fall lower than expected and end up sitting in the Green Room forever.
And John Wall will be picked No. 1 overall by the Washington Wizards.
Now what we don't know is this: How good is John Wall?
We know he's a freakish athlete of the LeBron James, Derrick Rose, Josh Smith mold.
Thanks to ESPN's draft preview and Sports Science we now know that John Wall can thread a bounce pass through a funnel-like object on the first try.
And thanks to Bill Simmons we understand how cool of a name John Wall is.
But is he a true point guard?
Can he and Gilbert Arenas mesh without gunfire erupting?
Is he a bit of a head case?
But most importantly for the Wizards, is he the best player in this draft?
The draft process is inherently risky, but it's my opinion that John Wall is not even necessarily a sure thing. He doesn't have NBA range, great court vision or great leadership.
Balance that out with his otherworldly athleticism, his commitment to defense, and the fact he seems to get better when it matters.
But my question is this: Who would you rather have going into next year—Brandon Jennings(last year's No. 10 pick who had similar questions going into the draft) or John Wall.
No GM in his right mind would take Wall in hindsight, and no one would have taken Jennings over Wall last year.
Just keep that in mind in case John Wall is not the savior of Washington people will make him out to be tonight.
