WWE's Stars of Tomorrow and Their Modern-Day Counterparts

Josh BrewerJun 22, 2010

WWE's youth movement is in full effect, if never more obvious by the recent dominance and destruction left behind by the NXT rookies. After all, six of the seven so-called Nexus members are under the age of 30...and the one that isn't, Darren Young, doesn't turn 31 until November.

While stardom for any of those seven superstars is still a long road ahead, some of WWE's brightest stars are on the cusp of the main event stage. While some future main eventers will blaze their own unique path through WWE history, four burgeoning superstars fit the mold of superstars who are on their way, or are already in, the Hall of Fame.

Let's take a look at four men with the potential to headline future WresteMania main events, as well as their well-established doppelgangers.

The MizChris Jericho

Chris Jericho spent years in the cruiserweight division in WCW before finally climbing the mountain and defeating The Rock for his first of six world title reigns.

While The Miz has seen his career arc swing a little higher, he spent plenty of time paying his dues as a tag team specialist before finally branching away from John Morrison and out on his own.

Both men have historically big mouths, which have played a large part in their success. The Miz's in-ring abilities are improving by the day, and his first world title reign may be much sooner than later.

Evan BourneRey Mysterio

The size of both superstars is the easy comparison. Look deeper, though, and the similarities continue.

Both men possess a signature move that is incredibly popular with the young fans, something that's very important to the WWE product nowadays. Fans seem to be just as excited to see the Airbourne as they for the 619.

Both men also have a quick-striking fighting style to go along with their popular finisher. If Bourne's fan base continues to grow, he may be ready to step into Mysterio's role as the ultimate underdog once Mysterio hangs his wrestling boots up for good.

SheamusTriple H

As if the Lemmy beard and the fact that they're workout partners wasn't enough, the heel characters of Sheamus and Triple H are eerily similar.

Both men follow the classic mold of the physical heel, catching easy heat by using underhanded tactics and stealing victories when they mean the most. High profile feuds with the company's biggest faces (John Cena and The Rock, respectively) doesn't hurt the effort to garner heat, either.

Only time will tell how Sheamus fares as a babyface. With Triple H in his ear behind the scenes, things are looking up for The Celtic Warrior's future atop WWE's most prolific brand.

Dolph ZigglerMr. Perfect

For all we, the WWE Universe, know, the Dolph Ziggler character could have been directly based off Curt Hennig's famous 1990s gimmick. Heck, Ziggler's entrance theme even starts with, "I am perfection."

Mr. Perfect never really broke through the glass ceiling during his WWE career, and I could see Ziggler suffering the same fate. Ziggler's heat is as high as Hennig's ever was, however, so the potential for Ziggler to break through to the main event scene is surely there.

WWE creative could run wild with the Ziggler character, which could turn into a more narcissistic, less self-righteous version of the current CM Punk character. The only thing Punk has that Ziggler doesn't is a world title run...and that may not be far off for the master of the Zig Zag.
