Victory Over Seminoles Leaves Gators and Tebow Looking to '08

Brian JordanNov 25, 2007

IconThe season that started out with so much promise for the Florida Gators ended with a lopsided victory over arch-rival FSU. The impressive victory left many (myself included) pondering what I just witnessed.

Was this the same Gator offense that looked confused in the loss to Auburn? Was this the same defense that allowed LSU to convert every fourth down attempt? Was it the same team that was dominated by a less talented UGA squad?

The answer to these questions is an emphatic no. Something happened between the UGA game and the Vandy game. The Gators finally got it—all phases clicked.

This culminated in the thrashing of FSU. The Gators manhandled the Seminoles in all phases and looked like a championship-caliber squad. (If you disagree, I ask this: Do you think anyone would want to play UF right now if there was a playoff schedule in place? I seriously doubt it.)

I guess we will have to wait until next year.

This Florida squad had an inconsistent season. Many people will look at it as a failure because there will be no championships won. BUT, this season was bound to happen for a few reasons.

1. UF just won a National Title.

2. UF just lost nine defensive starters.

The future is bright. Many young players got valuable playing time, and the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores.

UF will have a stable of running backs with the return of Mon Williams from injury and the addition of Emmanuel Moody from USC. Chris Rainey may be another option in the backfield.

The defense will be stout with the front seven leading the way. The secondary may still be a work in progress, but can't be worse than this year.

The offense will be great.

All hope for the season is not lost though. UF is currently No. 10 in the BCS and in all likelihood will play the Fighting Zookers of Illinois in the Capital One Bowl.

Broken hand may still strike Heisman pose

Tim Tebow broke a bone in his hand against FSU, but this will not stop him from striking the familiar pose in December.

It's simple: Tebow is having one of the best seasons in the history of college football, with 51 TDs, 22 rushing (ties NCAA for QB record, shatters SEC/UF record), No. 2 in passing efficiency, 29 TDs to six INTs, and nearly 4,000 yards of total offense.

I believe he will win it. The numbers are hard to ignore and he has name recognition. If he doesn't win, the Heisman will take another credibility shot in the eyes of America.

So we will see.
