World Extreme Cagefighting Hometown Takedown: Bring the WEC To Your Area
World Extreme Cagefighting, Versus, AMP Energy, Hess, and Maverik are currently giving fans the opportunity to bring the WEC to their town.
The name of contest is the Hometown Takedown and there are 30 cities that are available for voting.
As of today, there are 56 days left in the voting process that ends July 31st. Each person can vote up to 10 times a day.
The WEC most recently held events in Sacramento, California (April 24) and Columbus, Ohio (March 6).
Columbus, home of the Blue Jackets (NHL) and Ohio State Buckeyes (NCAA), hosted the WEC with a main event that featured then-bantamweight champion Brian Bowles defending the title against Dominick Cruz.
Cruz used excellent footwork and takedowns to frustrate Bowles throughout the fight. A broken hand by Bowles prevented him from making it off the stool to begin Round Three.
In addition to the championship fight, the event hosted other notable fighters such as MMA superstar Miguel Torres, Leonard Garcia, and bantamweight contenders Joseph Benavidez and Scott Jorgensen.
Nationwide Arena, home of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, hosted the event with 8,345 fans in attendance.
Fans in Columbus currently have the opportunity to bring the WEC back with the Hometown Takedown voting contest now underway.
