May in Review: TNA's Performance
Tonight marks not only the first TNA Impact of the month but also a chance to wipe away its past struggles and get the ball rolling once again. The month of May saw many transitions for TNA, with its time slot switches and trying to climb higher in the ratings.
On May 3rd, TNA held its final live Monday night show. Impact drew a 0.8 rating. During the course of its Monday night run, TNA averaged a 0.82 rating in its 9-11 pm time slot and scored a 0.78 from 8-10 pm.
The move back to Thursdays, in my opinion, was a smart decision. After an exciting January 4th episode, with scored a 1.5 rating, the highest of all-time, TNA struggled to battle WWE in its short Monday night run. The time slot change back to Thursday nights could help the company grow much more than staying with its Monday slot.
And that switch has shown to be the right move thus far.
On May 13th, its first show back on Thursday night, scored a 0.93 rating with 1,275,000 viewers, an increase from almost all of its Monday night shows. Since then, TNA has slowly seen an increase of viewership and ratings every week.
That is a very positive sign, especially after its struggles on Mondays.
Overall, the month of May saw TNA make the right move by going back to Thursday nights and rebuilding their audience. With many well known names on the roster card and if the show quality gets better, the company could be looking into a positive June.
MY OFFICIAL WORD:
TNA is slowly rebuilding their audience. Thursday nights seem to be working. I believe the company needs to feature longer matches, especially with the roster it has. Too many times are these matches short.
Also, why not try a live Thursday Night Impact? Live shows typically do well in the ratings. It may be much better financially to have shows taped but a once a month deal to go live could only mean bigger ratings. TNA has proven it could present a really good product when going live. Unpredictability and no spoilers could lead to more viewers.
