Pacquiao Fights to Entertain Fans While Mayweather Fights for Money
On many occasions, Manny Pacquiao said he fights to please boxing fans, especially those who pay to watch the fight on PPV and the others who don't mind traveling from faraway places to watch him fight.
Pacquiao knows boxing fans want to see action fights and he knows he would please them whenever he mixes it up with his opponent inside the ring. Of course, money is important but he said he feels good when his fans are happy to see a good fight.
In most of his major fights, boxing fans have applauded the popular Filipino boxer for giving his best in every fight regardless of the odds particularly when he faces superior fighters like the legendary Oscar de la Hoya, Ricky Hatton, and Miguel Cotto, among others.
During his fight with Oscar de la Hoya which many boxing experts tagged as a "David and Golliath" fight owing to the height, reach and body advantage of the Golden Boy, boxing fans who watch the fight at the MGM Grand were seen on live television screaming and many were on the edge of their seats, all enjoying the entertainment part of the match.
When Pacquiao fought Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas last year, boxing fans watching inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena and on their television seats, were so pleased to see an action-filled match despite the second round stoppage of the British boxing icon.
A similar action-filled fight was seen by millions of boxing fans around the world when Pacquiao fought Miguel Cotto of Puerto Rico, which resulted in the fight stoppage on the last round.
The same entertainment value was provided by Pacquiao to the viewing public when he fought great boxers like Erik Morales, Juan Manuel Marquez, and Marco Antonio Barrera.
During his most recent fight with Joshua Clottey of Ghana, Pacquiao was very apologetic for letting his fans down as he was not able to provide the entertainment part of the match.
He immediately admitted that it was a boring fight but he said there was not much he can do because Clottey refused to mix it up with him.
In the case of Floyd Myaweather Jr. boxing fans are saying he is one of the most boring fighters around.
This observation could be attributed to his defensive fighting style as shown in his most recent fight with Shane Mosley, which the audience did not enjoy watching. In most cases, defensive fighters are less entertaining to watch.
In fairness to the great American boxer, Mayweather did have a good number of fights where the audience got the value of their money. One of these fights was the Oscar de la Hoya-Mayweather match.
Still many boxing critics whose views are shown on their comments to articles that are anchored on the proposed Mayweather-Pacquiao match, are saying that Mayweather is not out there to entertain and please his millions of fans.
They say the undefeated boxer is there for the money more than anything else.
These comments by fans who are Pacquiao supporters are most unfair to the undefeated American boxer, who is just trying to show the world the art of defensive boxing.
Defensive boxing is working for Mayweather, otherwise he won't remain undefeated in his entire professional boxing career.
Of course money is important, otherwise Mayweather won't be asking for more than what was originally agreed upon between him and Pacquiao in their failed March 13 fight.
