King of the Ring.

Every year, when fans would hear these words uttered in the WWE, they knew a star was about to be born.

Triple H.

Stone Cold Steve Austin.

These are just a few of the winners of the King of the Ring tournament.

Since its inception in 1985, the King of the Ring pitted anywhere from eight to 32 of the company’s brightest stars in a month long tournament, with which the winner would be granted a WWE Championship Match at some point in the near future.

But with the last King of the Ring tournament in 2008, and the need of emerging new stars in the WWE, is it time to bring back King of the Ring?

With the Money in the Bank Ladder Match being created at WrestleMania 21, this match already gives the winner of the match a guaranteed WWE or World Heavyweight Championship Match to be cashed in at anytime within a year.

But this is a match that only happens once a year, with an exception to this year with the inaugural Money in the Bank pay-per-view scheduled for July 18.

While Money in the Bank is a great concept and I would like for it to continue to be a yearly showcase at WrestleMania, the King of the Ring Tournament would be a month long tournament.

WWE could bring back King of the Ring in September or October with the winner of the tournament to receive a WWE or World Heavyweight Championship Match of their choosing at Survivor Series, or whatever pay-per-view that is to be held in November (there were rumors of WWE scrapping the Survivor Series pay-per-view).

First round, second round, and quarterfinal matches would be held on RAW and Smackdown, with the semifinals and the tournament final to be held at the King of the Ring pay-per-view.

With talented up and coming wrestlers such as Christian, Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston and countless others, the King of the Ring Tournament would undoubtedly generate interest among WWE fans.

Not to mention, the tournament will provide them with entertaining matches that have championship implications.

With the WWE in somewhat of a transition period, with Shawn Michaels retiring, and Triple H, Batista and The Undertaker all showing signs of wear and tear on their bodies, WWE needs new superstars to step into the main event spotlight and help lead the WWE into another era.

The King of the Ring Tournament needs to be brought back to establish the superstars of tomorrow, today.
