Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather May Prove They're "Psychological Coward(s)"

Colin LinneweberMay 3, 2010

“Pretty Boy” Floyd Mayweather utterly dominated former WBA Super World Welterweight champion “Sugar” Shane Mosley en route to earning a unanimous decision victory Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Despite being staggered by Mosley (46-6, 39 KOs) in the second round, Mayweather (41-0, 25) managed to nicely recover from the blows and he essentially fought a perfect fight for the remaining 10 rounds thereafter.

“You have to give Mayweather credit,” said Brad Sherwood, 29, a resident of South Boston who is employed as a trainer at Gold’s Gym in Medford. “He proved for the first time that he can take a good punch and rebound.”

Immediately upon the conclusion of the match, focus again turned to the prospect of a lucrative Mayweather versus WBO World Welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao (51-3-2, 38 KOs) prizefight.

Pacquiao and Mayweather were tentatively slated to box this past March.

Pathetically, the dream contest deteriorated when the two disgraceful camps couldn’t agree to terms over drastic drug testing measures.

“If Manny Pacquiao can take a blood and urine test then we have a fight,” said Mayweather, 33, who has captured nine world boxing championships in five different weight classes since he made his professional debut in October 1996. “If not, no fight.”

Pacquiao, the first boxer to ever win seven world titles in seven different weight divisions, is still adamant that he will not allow drug testing to occur within 24-days of the bout.

“For me, as long as the drug test is not done close to the match, I’ll agree because if they’ll get blood from me close to the match, it will be a disadvantage for me because I’m smaller and he’s big.”

Mayweather, the winner of the bronze medal as a Featherweight at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, provided an interesting quote in retort.

“I offered Pacquiao the fight. I said, ‘We’ll give you $25 million.’ I never met a man who wouldn’t take a $25 million drug test.”

Both Mayweather and Mosley agreed to undergo Olympic-style drug testing for their prizefight to occur this past weekend.

Pacquiao will not be at a “disadvantage” by taking a blood test and it is categorically insane, irresponsible and naive for him to claim otherwise.

Taking a blood test is in zero capacity the same as donating blood.

One will simply not be weakened by having a blood test administered at any moment of time.

Despite the fact that a blood test will cause a person zero physical repercussions, Pacquiao’s immoral promoter, Bob Arum, decided to chime in anyways.

“I’ve been saying this for years: He’s a psychological coward who doesn’t want to fight anybody who has a chance of beating him,” said Arum, who admitted during a 2000 federal trial that he is a bribing and corruptible snake. “He walked away from a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya that would have paid him a fortune because De La Hoya held him close in the first fight.”

After watching Saturday’s shellacking, De La Hoya (39-6, 30 KOs) concluded that Mayweather is the preeminent boxer in the world and he predicted that “Pretty Boy” would dissect Pacquiao in a fight.

“Mayweather has the skills to beat anybody,” said De La Hoya, who lost to Pacquiao, Mayweather and Mosley before he retired from pugilism in April 2009.

“He has the talent. He has the work ethic and people all over the world are becoming fans of the talent he possesses. Mayweather is on a different level. He’s on a different level because he’s a student of the game. He will dissect you outside the ring and finish him off inside the ring. He knows how to get in your head and he knows how to beat you mentally and then he’ll beat you physically. He can wait for you to make mistakes. Pacquiao makes many mistakes. That will fall into Mayweather’s hands with no problem. It will be an entertaining fight because there’s no quit in Pacquiao. A fight with Pacquiao-Mayweather would be a very interesting fight. But I’d have to tell you Mayweather is by far the best.”

Perhaps “Mayweather is by far the best.”

However, maybe Pacquiao would brutalize Mayweather with his rapid combinations and overwhelm him with his surreal stamina.

Either way, if Pacquiao doesn’t rightfully or wrongly agree to Mayweather’s insisted drug testing methods, fans of boxing will only be able to speculate on what the outcome would be.

If Pacquiao and Mayweather don’t battle, they are both “psychological coward(s).”
