Liverpool 0, Chelsea 2: Job Done and It Was All Too Easy!

chelsea daftMay 2, 2010

Chelsea took a massive step towards the title; winning 2-0 at Anfield with goals from Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.

It was a game the world was watching as everyone expected Chelsea to stumble and hand the initiative to Man United, but it was a different story and, let's be honest, Chelsea played in second gear as that was all that was needed to get the job done today.

Liverpool, to their credit, made a game of it—but with their only shot on target coming in the 91st minute of the game, that alone tells the story.

Chelsea played really well and never looked in any danger. Ancelotti made only one change to the side that beat Stoke last week, with JT coming in for Ferreira and Ivanovic moving across to right back.

Liverpool huffed and puffed but couldn't really muster any real threat in the game. Chelsea had a penalty shot turned down, which replays suggest should of been given after Lucas clipped Kalou in the box. Nothing was given but Chelsea were up 1-0 by then.

Steven Gerrard will unfairly get alot of headlines in the morning for his backpass which Didier Drogba pounced on and sent passed Reina—who had no chance. It was no less than Chelsea deserved.

Chelsea made it two early in the second half when Drogba played a ball out wide to Anelka and his cross found Lampard, who was making one of his customary late runs into the box. He slid the ball home passed the helpless Reina once more.

Liverpool made some changes to their side but never really threatend a Chelsea side high on confidence and playing well.

The thing that was impressive was not only did we get the job done, we never looked in any trouble, and it looked like we could step it up a gear if we needed to.

Today at Anfield we didn't need to and the three points were ours.

So its onto Stamford Bridge and Wigan at home. A win and the title is ours once more. United have beaten Sunderland today 1-0, so they remain a point behind.

Its a grandstand finish to a topsy-turvey season, but one that could be the biggest in our history.
