Eddie Chambers Wont Beat Wladimir Klitschko: Chris Byrd Taught Us That
I usually figure out who can win a fight and how they will do it. Then I get sucked into the hype. Every single time I get sucked into the hype and forget what I know.
I did it with Clottey-Pacquiao last weekend. I knew Clottey would sit in his shell and not punch. Then I got to reading articles and thought hey he might pull it off. Well, we all know he didn’t.
That is why I am not falling for the hype on Eddie Chambers. He has no shot to beat Wladimir Klitschko tomorrow in Germany.
Klitschko will not be beaten by a soft-hitting boxer. The only way you will beat him is if you have a big punch. Chambers does not have a big punch.
In my eyes this is the best opponent that Klitschko has faced since Chris Byrd and ironically, Chambers is almost a Byrd clone.
Chambers is one inch taller than Byrd at 6’1”, has a one inch reach advantage at 75”, both weigh in around 205-215 for their fights, and neither has knocked out a top heavyweight. Byrd was a southpaw while Chambers has an orthodox stance, but I doutbt this plays any part.
As boxers, they may be superior to Klitschko but they do not bring the necessary tools into the ring. Neither had the punch to put Klitschko in any real trouble and that’s what you need. Byrd was mauled two times by Klitschko and never was really in either fight.
Klitschko’s three losses have come against big-punching heavyweights in Ross Puritty, Corrie Sanders, and Lamon Brewster. I would not compare Chambers to any of these fighters.
Some people point to the fact that Chambers handled the 6’7” 253 lb. Alexander Dimitrenko in his last bout. Sorry to break it to you but he is not Klitschko and this is the exact thing that usually gets my hope up but not this time.
Dimitrenko had a longer reach (three inches longer) but he is disciplined like Klitschko. Some people think Klitschko is mentally weak but he is not. To stick to his safety first jab, jab, jab plan takes a lot of mental strength.
Klitschko should be about 35 pounds heavier, he will have a six inch reach advantage, and a five inch height advantage. To me that all spells doom for the smaller man.
I just think at the top level Klitschko has proved himself time and time again while Chambers is relatively green when it comes to the top-level fighters. Chambers may have his moments but getting inside that jab is a tough job.
Everyone thinks they can do it but once they feel the power and see the reach of Klitschko their plans get changed quickly. Chambers wont quit but he will have a very tough time getting on the inside of that jab. Even if he does Klitschko is smart enough to tie up so Chambers cant do work.
Simply put Klitschko is a fighting machine at this point in his career and he isn’t going to lose. He knows what he wants to do and he makes you fight his fight. If you don’t fight your fight you're going to lose.
You know what? Maybe Chambers can pull out the win with his inside work and belief in himself. On second thought...I’m falling into that trap yet again.
