Who Is The Most Underrated WWE Superstar in The Business?

The Doctor Chris MuellerMar 15, 2010

The WWE has always been a source of controversy and political agendas.  Over the years many different wrestlers have been pushed to the top of the ladder simply because of how they look or talk on the mic, while other guys with all the skill in the world are held back by their physique or poor mic skills.

With that said, I have been pondering lately, who is the most underrated superstar out there today?

The WWE has been having a hard time finding which new guys will that carry the company after such stars as HBK, HHH, and Undertaker retire.  Jericho is still good for awhile but he cant go forever.

Sometimes the WWE strikes gold when they get someone like Brock Lesnar or The Rock, guys with ability and charisma.  But what about the workhorses of the company?

One name that some may consider the most underrated wrestler of all time is Mr. Perfect.  While he is known worldwide, he was never given a World Title run with a major organization.

The same sad story can be said for guys like Arn Anderson, Owen Hart, Scott Hall, and Golddust.

Thats right, I said Golddust.  Dustin Runnels (Rhodes) is by far one of wrestling's most underrated stars.  His character helped usher in the Attitude era with his mocking of people's homophobia and technical in ring style.

Goldy suffered some personal setbacks and was gone from television for a few years.  He reemerged in TNA as Black Reign, a sadistic alternate personality from that of Rhodes.  During his time in TNA he must have turned some heads at WWE because just over a year after his TNA debut he came back to WWE as the gold and glitter loving film critic.

During his time in TNA you could see that Dustin was not in nearly as good of shape as he had been in past years.  However when he came back to WWE he was looking slimmer, healthier, and hungry for stardom.

Since coming back he has teased a feud with his younger brother Cody, but nothing has materialized.  Now that his home of ECW is gone, he is on Smackdown opposite his brother on Raw.

Chris Jericho posted a Twitter update praising Golddust after their recent Superstars match calling him one of the best in the business.  Coming from the world champ this could help Golddust get a good push soon.

While I feel that it is unlikely he will ever attain world title status, I am allowed to hope that someday he will.  What a shocker it would be if the WWE held a 20 man battle royal for a World Title and he won.  Even if he was Champion for just a week, it would validate his lifelong effort to entertain the fans.

Another name I mentioned before was Arn Anderson.  One of the founding fathers of the Four horseman, wrestling's greatest stable, Arn was never given the credit he truly deserved.

AA has held titles all over the world in both Tag and Singles competition.  His tough in ring style is seen as a thing of the past, but when watching his matches you still feel like he could take on most of the young guys today.

Arn has been in the shadow of his former four horseman teammate Ric Flair for years.  Flair was always the World Champion while Arn was either the US or Tag champion.

I can at least take solace in the fact that someone else thinks AA is the best in the world.  Daniel Tosh has gone on record saying "If the wrestling was based on ability Arn Anderson would be the most popular wrestler in the world".  Truer words have never been spoken.

The former Brainbuster is now a backstage employee for WWE and is considered a mentor to some of WWE's younger wrestlers.  His legacy will hopefully be cemented by a spot in the Hall of Fame soon.

So in conclusion, I believe Golddust and Arn Anderson are the two most Underrated wrestlers.  Who do you think deserves more credit than they ever received?
