We Must Win This Title For Ourselves and Aaron Ramsey

Akhil VyasFeb 28, 2010

Being a life long Gooner and constantly listening to other fans and pundits telling us we won't win the league this season makes me want Arsenal to win the league even more.

I’m sure I am not the only one who thinks this, as the players and staff at Arsenal will be determined more than ever to bring the first Premier league title to the Emirates. (The rest being at Highbury off Course!)

Another reason to win this league is for Mr Aaron Ramsey. A young lad of nineteen, who has always been willing to step into the team whenever needed and by far has improved a lot in the last few months. Who remembers the goal at Fratton Park... or the goal at home to seal the three points against Stoke. Aaron has had a great season in relation to where he is as a footballer. What is unfortunate is that his development will have to be put on hold for at least a year as he will be battling to first walk, run then play football again.

To me it’s evident that Aaron can be a world class player and has been magnificent for Wales in the international games he has played in already, and at such a young age. The development will stop for a while but I am in no doubt that he will still be a world class player. He will be playing for Arsenal and Wales for many years to come.

Aaron Ramsey to me symbolises how young players see Arsenal. Manchester United were desperate to get their hands on Aaron but he chose Arsenal, because of the uniqueness of the club which lets youngsters play in the first team and Aaron knew, in Arsene Wenger, that he is in safe hands.

Aaron was always willing to play and give 100% and that sprit is illuminated at the Britannia stadium the other night. The character of the players was massive; let’s not get this wrong, players who were in the team a few years ago had the Eduardo injury and the result of the game in their minds. I am sure William Gallas sitting at home would have been desperate to be out there to put things right but to the team's credit, they put things right. They not only won the game for Aaron and for Arsenal football club, but they won the game for themselves. It was not very nice seeing Aaron down on the turf in pain but what was slightly refreshing was the reaction from certain players like Gael Clichy, who has had a lot of unfair stick recently even though he was doing the team a favour by putting himself forward to play even though he wasn’t at match fitness. Clichy’s reaction was brilliant and he was obviously disappointed seeing Aaron down however, he did not lose focus. Sol Campbell was furious with the challenge and clearly distressed at the referee but he brought some experience and a sense of calmness to the team. Cesc Fabregas did not let his level drop and wanted to win it for Aaron. There were many characters in that team that night and it was a credit to themselves and the club.

Stoke away has proven to be the hardest place to go in the last two years for Arsenal. We won at the Bridge and got a point at Old Trafford last year and even out played United at Old Trafford this year, but away to Stoke, we have never looked like winning. The result must put a lot of confidence and self belief in the minds of our players and with results going our way in the last few weeks, things are looking up.

I do believe we can win this title, but after the results against Manchester United and Chelsea, just to be involved in the title race was something I personally was hoping for. I hope the lads can keep it going, losing Ramsey will be a huge blow with Diaby out already, however the signs look promising for the return of Diaby. He is needed with Song, who is also out for two games, but whoever plays will have to show the same desire as the boys did at Stoke over the weekend... and I believe they will.

Come on the Arsenal!
