The Monday Night Wars Part 2
On March 8, 2010 the Monday Night Wars round 2 will begin. What do you know the same generals are still the same as the last Monday Night War. Vince Mcmahon and WWE and Eric Bischoff of TNA Wrestling. Before it used to be Vince MaMahon and the WWF and Eric Bischoff of WCW. Monday Night Raw is still one of the most successful TV programs in television history. In the late 1990's, Wrestling has somewhat died down, it got boring, but the WWF had some things going but not enough to keep interest, WCW pounced on that oppurtunity. WCW did something so drastic, that they thought this move might lose WCW fans, No one thought it would ever happen, The man that turned wrestling into sports entertainment, the Immortal Hulk Hogan, was a villian. With that concept, Eric Bischoff created a gang for Hulk Hogan, the NWO. I'll admit this is what brought me back to wrestling in the late 90's and I rooted for the NWO, yes I'm a NWO-ite. This kept me interested and WWF, well it wasn't keeping up WCW. People would do this every Monday Night throw, WCW Nitro parties, it was almost a like a religion. While WWF was talking about crap, literally. WCW held its own until they started doing stupid things... spliting the NWO, Fan favorite NWO Wolfpack and the Villians NWO black n white, who the hell was Vince Russo, how come Jim Cornett didn't bash anybody with a tennis racket, and Eric Bischoff making bad calls.
WWF finally had that opening for a fatal blow to WCW and Ted Turner. While WCW fans were waiting for a Nitro show, Shane McMahon enters the WCW Nitro ring and announces that the World Wrestling Federation OWNS WCW, literally. While WCW were making their mistakes, WWF were doing things to regain their fan base back. Hulk Hogan popularized wrestling what it is today...Stone Cold Steve Austin revolutionized sports entertainment what it is today. WWF got their fanbase back from WCW because of Stone Cold Steve Austin. How and why you say...let see...first he came to the WWF as a villian, as soon as he faced Owen Hart, he became a fan fave. When Austin returned, the antics used to make Hart's life a living hell were hysterical, funny, it got our attention, then he did what every working man wants to do from time to time... go after the boss and beat the hell out of them. Stone Cold vs. Vincent Kennedy Mcmahon...this is where, in my opinion, WWF got their entire fanbase back.. Austin making vince's life a living hell like the hospital scene where Austin pretended to be a doctor just he can inflict more pain on Vince, classic. Stone Cold's antics were just half the reasons viewers tuned into RAW, also his dialogues, the way he spoke to other people and fellow wrestlers. The Texas Rattlesnake would lure his unsuspecting victims by just talking and adding "WHAT?!" and before they knew it...BOOM...STONE COLD STUNNER...STONE COLD STUNNER!!!commentary by the great Jim Ross.
I guess Vince wasn't joking around when got his theme music "NO CHANCE". He had to put the dagger in the heart..the creation of Degeneration-X, who consisted of Shawn Michaels, Hunter Hearst Helmsey, and Chyna. They did more than just go over the boss's head, they showed a full moon while they were at it. I'll admit their antics were just a little better only because there were some FCC violations involved. They acted like children and the fans were just loving it. The WWF Attitude Era was the best time.
As soon as the legalities of the acquistition were complete, the WWF started to use some of the WCW talent and too keep fans watching after the Attitude Era, Vince did improbable, give the fans what they have been talking about since the start of the Monday Night Wars...WCW roster and newly acquired ECW roster versus the WWF. That kept the fans for awhile but then things started to wind down and fans started to lose interest. Matches were becoming more predictable, too many posers,John Cena, all the good wrestlers with charisma and talent were being chewed out and tossed away...look at Mr. Anderson at TNA, its still Mr. Kennedy, he was pretty good. Kurt Angle one of the best wrestlers if not the best wrestler in the business. I feel that the WWF went downhill as soon as the organization had to drop WWF because of the animal rights activists and adopt World Wrestling Entertainment.
On March 8th, 2010... same business gurus, some familar faces but I got the feeling its gonna be the same, predictable ending. WWE will win the war again. TNA does have questionable performances, there are some times the wrestlers get confused and becomes obvious, then there are times we see some "fake" performances that become obvious like Scott Steiner hits head on the ring post when his opponent's hand slipped accidently before hitting the ring post. Hey, TNA had its moments too. I enjoyed watching the Main Event Mafia, World elite gang. TNA tried to employ some old WWF/WCW tactics but they did every dumb businessman. They wanted to fix something that wasn't broken, stop selling a product that is in demand. As businessmen, why do you always go against business principles. I know that in show biz, they want to keep things fresh, but sometimes thats not the case... whats keeping fans, what is not keeping fans, how do we keep fans more interested, how do we attact new and more fans?...Heres my two cents, superstar alliances to form teams or gangs, foul mouths and potty mouths, crazy and funny antics seemed to work all the time... look at the reunion of Degeneration-X. So far the score 1-0, advantage Vince, soon it will be 2-0, advantage Vince Mcmahon.
