Philadelphia 76ers' Problems

There has been speculation at the deadline that the Philadelphia 76ers are shopping Andre Iguodala. As the deadline passed, he and his $80 million contract remain with the team.

The 76ers have become notorious over the last decade for handing out contracts to players that may or may not be deserved. Elton Brand, who was recovering from consecutive surgeries at the time, was handed a monster deal that will keep him with the 76ers through the 2013 season. And a mediocre center, Dalembert, is making upwards of $8 million.

"Where do the problems lie?" you may ask. I believe that it all begins with the management. Someone is needed who is not afraid to take a gamble and deal these players. This team will not become a playoff contender with late lottery picks. What they need to do is find a new GM who will make smarter deals and not lock up average players.

To begin fixing this team, Stafanski should try to shop Iguodala in the offseason. As much as I like Iguodala, he is not a player who can take over and go for 30 to win you the game.

Then they should work with the pieces they have and run the offense through these young players that may develop into something special. Thadeus Young, Holliday, and Speights are all players who, if given the minutes, will turn into productive players.

To begin this transition, Eddie Jordan will have to go. He is a mediocre coach and would not find success even if given Kobe. The Sixers should try to find a coach with plenty of experience with young talent to try to expand on this talent.

All in all, the potential is there for the 76ers to become Philadelphia's team again. But until they begin shopping Iguodala, Brand, and Dalembert to make room for this young talent, this team will remain at the bottom of the East and will not have a taste of the NBA finals for years to come.
