Week 15 NBA Fantasy Start and Sit: The Rise of Darren Collison
With injuries and rotations changing almost daily , and rookies really starting to make a name for themselves, fantasy owners need to stay on top of what is happening in the NBA now more than ever.
Check out which teams offer the most games for your players this week, and then take a look at who we're promoting, and who we think should stay on your bench.
This is a good week to sit Kevin Love, Al Jefferson, and Jonny Flynn, while everyone else is fair game with 3-4 games this week. Keep reading to get an idea on how to separate the rest of the pack.
Two Games: Minnesota
Three Games: Charlotte, Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Golden State, Houston, Indiana, L.A. Clippers, New York, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Phoenix, Philadelphia, San Antonio, Toronto, Utah
Four Games: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Memphis, L.A. Lakers, Miami, Milwaukee, New Jersey, New Orleans, Portland, Sacramento, Washington
Start
Darren Collison, PG, New Orleans Hornets
Starting Collison just stopped being a choice. If you're a Chris Paul owner (knee surgery) snatching Collison from the waiver wire (if he was still available) was your top priority for the past weekend.
And even if you didn't have Paul, you should have been aware of Collison's surging value.
With Paul's injury (out for 1-2 months), Collison immediately is inserted into the starting line-up, and judging by his start two nights ago, he's more than ready to pretend he's Chris Paul for the next 6-8 weeks.
With 17 points and 18 assists in a win over Memphis, Collison holds great value for this week and going forward.
Mike Miller, G/F, Washington Wizards
Miller still has a tendency to delay his shooting trigger on offense, but he's starting, getting major minutes, and finally showed us what he's capable of in his last game.
After hitting 7-10 three's to notch 25 points, along with eight assists and nine rebounds, Miller displayed his superstar potential (albeit inconsistently), and still brings good value as a versatile option, regardless.
Take a chance and hope that Miller continues launching three's and playing an vital part in Washington's new found competitiveness.
Danilo Gallinari, SF, New York Knicks
Gallinari has been absolutely killing it the past few games, as he has recorded two straight double-doubles, and has topped 10 points in nine of his last 10 games.
His percentages could be a lot better, but he's maximizing his value as a dual threat recently, and as a consistent offensive threat. He could be an excellent Utility option, and could even spot-start at small forward in most line-ups.
Andrei Kirilenko, F, Utah Jazz
Kirilenko has found his niche in a starting role with the Jazz in the past nine games, putting up 25 or more points twice during that stretch.
He's also filling up the box-score like he did a few years ago, as he's turned in at least 11 points and six rebounds in four of his last five games. Add in his 11 blocks in his last three games, and Kirilenko is a quiet budding fantasy option.
Brad Miller, F/C, Chicago Bulls
Miller has come out of nowhere to put in some solid production for the Bulls that past few games, stepping up with Joakim Noah nursing an injury, while helping Chicago win its past five games.
He's not dominating, but he's averaging over 22 minutes per game in his last four contests, and has topped 10 points in every game during that stretch.
Throw in his ability to knock down the three (at least two in three of last four games), and Miller could be a healthy addition to your starting line-up if you're hurting at the post position.
Sit
Rafer Alston, PG, Miami Heat
Alston still hasn't been able to find a consistent role on offense with the Heat, despite continuing to start games and log solid minutes.
He hasn't topped 10 points or seven assists in five straight games, displaying his lack of star-power, and hindering his value. He's been consistently average, and that simply isn't good enough to keep plugging him into line-ups.
Alston is a strong "drop" candidate.
Vince Carter, G/F, Orlando Magic
Carter has looked slow and hampered by possible lingering injuries. He simply hasn't been the dominant force Orlando signed him to be, as he's averaging under 16 points per game on the season, and simply not showing up in games of late.
With just three games over 10 points scoring in his last 13 contests, it's best you leave Carter on the bench.
Jason Richardson, G/F, Phoenix Suns
Richardson, like Carter, isn't blowing anyone away with his season averages, but also is dealing with some real inconsistency with his current game.
With just four games in double figures in scoring in his past 10 contests, it may be best to give Richardson a break and give another shooter/scorer a try in your starting line-up.
Danny Granger, G/F, Indiana Pacers
It's hard to say no to Granger, especially when he's averaging over 22 points per game on the season, but his recent stretch suggests you buckle down and sit him for the week.
Granger hasn't topped 14 points in three straight games, and is shooting awful percentages of late. Let him work out his shooting woes on your bench, and then give him a go next week, unless we advise otherwise.
Spencer Hawes, C, Sacramento Kings
Hawes holds great value for anyone's line-up, as he can hit the three, and shoots great overall percentages.
However, his inconsistent defense keeps him in foul trouble, and randomly limit his minutes, and causes him to be in and out of the starting line-up.
With just two games over 10 points in his past seven games, it'd be best to sit Hawes and see if he can't gain some consistency and lock down the starting spot at center for the Kings.
