WWE Draft 2008: Who's Going Where?

Crowd CoachJun 23, 2008

After 5 days, I've decided to give my thoughts before the Draft.

The word "Draft" is a very interesting word.

It can mean a new job to some, sure death to others.

In the hockey world, it means a fresh start while at the same time, more work than before, because there's an option for the team not to sign you and throw you back in the draft next year if they don't like what they see early.

In WWE, the draft only means superstars already in the company. A move only affects the careers of those moved. It can also be make or break based on what is written for the superstar.

I remember a draft where a huge trade ended up being the beginning of the end for superstars like Kenzo Suzuki and Rene Dupree.

There have been some great moments too.

John Cena, as WWE Champion, being drafted the first night a few years ago shook the company up more than any other trade and/or pick.

With Cena gone, SD!, had no champion.

Then on the final night, after JBL had angered all of us off by winning, Batista showed up and all was right with the world.

Who knows what great storylines we're going to get after the Draft.

The decision to do it before Night of Champions is a little confusing, but hey, I'm not Vince.

Here are some people I think would benefit from a change.

·         Jeff Hardy to ECW

·         Umaga to SD!

·         CM Punk to RAW

·         Vladimir Kozlov to RAW

·         Super Crazy to ECW

·         John Cena to SD!

…and one extra pick:

·         Kennedy to SD!

Why?

Jeff Hardy screams Extreme.

If ECW wants to get ratings, Jeff's your man.

I think after the Benoit debacle last year, Vince might be tentative to actually have this go through. I was quite happy that Benoit was on the brand to give it more credibility.

Then what happened… happened.

Jeff has been penalized; seemed to have learned his lesson and is more over than Benoit ever was in the last five years of his life. That statement is coming from a fan of his.

I would definitely be much more into ECW with Jeff on it. Imagine a team of he and Kofi vs Miz and Morrison. Hell, imagine Jeff vs. Morrison one more time or Shelton Benjamin.

Hardy would work well on the third brand.

Umaga has been plodding along: loss, loss, loss, win, loss, loss— for the better part of five months.

He needs fresh heads to crack, and boy will he get it on SD!

As I understand it, the ECW/SD! brand sharing storyline is still on, so it'd be a move that'd completely change Umaga's whole schedule. Maybe, the Bulldozer can even get on another winning streak, or match up with the Undertaker when he comes back and finishes his program with the Rated-R Superstar.

Hell, I just want to see Umaga vs. La Familia, any of them.

My favorite change of scenery, as RAW is known as the one show that tapes live, every week, no cuts, and no redo.

Let's stop the bleeding for the very talented CM Punk.

He's faced all there is to face on ECW, and has the MiTB briefcase.

Both he and the briefcase are getting stale with all the losses and rematches.

I think, we should see him on RAW, to see what he can really do when everyone's watching and there is no time for errors. A few wins would be nice to make the briefcase credible again.

And finally, my last reason to put Punk on RAW: when Punk became MiTB winner I was happy.

When Orton retained his gold, I was shocked, but not as angry as some were.

As he backed up the ramp, I was thinking, wouldn't it be great to see CM Punk show up behind him, take him out with the briefcase and roll him in the ring and become WWE Champion?

What a swerve that would've been!! Alas, Orton left, unopposed.

So, with Punk still in line for a title match, and Orton/Triple H taking a back step for Triple H/Cena, let's see it WWE. CM Punk one on one with Randy Orton.

In the words of Gorilla Monsoon, it would be an instant classic.

Vladimir Kozlov moving.

Continue the streak on RAW, to give him some real competition, and at the same time, force him to get better in the live environment of RAW or get booted out the door.

Management was reportedly very hesitant to bring him up months ago, because a McMahon child thought he wasn't ready. All I'm saying is, let's see how good he's gotten— oh, and he and Snitsky would be good too.

Talk about a monster's ball.

Super Crazy to ECW; we have Tommy Dreamer and Stevie Richards, let's add some old-school lucha libre to Tuesday nights.

I love Crazy, but as a cruiserweight on RAW, he's getting buried.

A re-run swap, John Cena left SD! three years ago at the Draft, at the height of his popularity with the majority.

It's time to send him back.

Sure, RAW gets higher ratings and revenue with the younger Cena fans, but, watching the show when it was without Cena, I saw no back steps.

In fact, I liked it better creative were forced to actually be creative without “The Champ” keeping each week on autopilot. Cena could really work well in a feud with MVP or Edge, or maybe put him against the Undertaker somewhere down the line.

It would be Hogan-Warrior II.

Now, I don't know how many picks each brand will have, and I'm sure there will be the nothing changes, like breaking up tag teams, or moving a diva or two, but a final choice: Kennedy to SD!

I want to see him pushed, and pushed well.

Also, remember it was Edge who took away his MiTB dreams and that feud never played out.

Then there's the comedic side that wants to see Kennedy and MVP bantering again.

Good luck to the Champions.

You'll need it before, during and after the PPV.

If any of my picks go through, WWE just might start getting better on multiple brands rather than just a brand a week.
