Nepotism Can Only Take You So Far: Chip Caray Done at TBS

According to the Associated Press , Chip Caray will no longer be broadcasting baseball games for TBS.

 

“Since the end of the 2009 MLB Playoffs, we’ve had several discussions with Chip Caray regarding 2010 and beyond. Both sides agree that now is the right time to move ahead on different paths,” the network said in a statement.

“Both sides agree that now is the right time to move ahead on different paths.” I have seen statements like that about employees in my company inbox before. That statement is a political way of saying he was fired.

The hiring of Caray by TBS is nepotism at it’s finest. The only reason this guy had a job in the first place is because his father was the legendary Atlanta Braves announcer Skip Caray and his grandfather was one of the most beloved baseball personalities of all time, Harry Caray.

Chip Caray is the Hank Steinbrenner of the Caray family. The apple fell way, way, way off the tree with him.

As I have said before, the TBS coverage of baseball has been the worst of any network in the 25 years I have been watching baseball. It’s a Mickey Mouse production that just uses baseball to promote its garbage shows like The Frank Caliendo Show that nobody watched.

Note to the executives over at TBS: Stick with Seinfeld and Friends reruns.

How can anyone take TBS seriously when one of their sideline reporters for a baseball playoff game is David Aldridge? In case you didn’t know, Aldridge was ESPN’s version of Chris Mortenson or Adam Schefter for the NBA in the late-'90s.

What can a former NBA insider tell me about a major league baseball game?

Parting ways with Caray is a good first-step to credibility for TBS. No successor to Caray has been named.
