Warriors' Stephen Curry to Co-Produce Animated 'Good Times' Series for Netflix
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry will serve as a co-producer for an animated version of the classic sitcom Good Times, which has been picked up by Netflix.
According to Denise Petski and Nellie Andreeva of Deadline, Curry and Erick Peyton of Unanimous Media said the following about their involvement in the project in a joint statement:
"We are so excited about this project! Unanimous is all about authentic partnerships and this team felt genuine from the beginning. Good Times strives to remind us that with the love of our family we can overcome any obstacle. We think, now more than ever, the world needs to see a show with hope and positivity."
Partnering with Curry on the project are Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door production company, original Good Times producer Norman Lear's Act III Productions and Sony Pictures TV.
The original Good Times was a groundbreaking sitcom that aired for six seasons on CBS from 1974 to 1979. Per Petski and Andreeva, it was the first sitcom about a Black two-parent family.
Esther Rolle, John Amos, Ja'net Dubois, Ralph Carter, Jimmie Walker and Bern Nadette Stanis were among those who starred in the popular sitcom, which followed a family in the inner city of Chicago.
Curry, 32, is one of the top NBA players of his generation with six All-Star appearances, three NBA championships and two NBA MVP awards to his credit.
Last season was a struggle for Curry, as he played only five games because of injury, which resulted in the Warriors finishing with the worst record in the NBA.
With a healthy Curry alongside Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins and the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA draft, however, Golden State has a chance to return to contention next season.
