Warriors' Stephen Curry Has Common Flu Illness; No Symptoms of Coronavirus

Adam WellsMar 7, 2020

One game into his return from a hand injury, Stephen Curry will be sidelined against the Philadelphia 76ers because of an illness.

Per The Athletic's Anthony Slater, the Golden State Warriors ruled out Curry for Saturday's game.

The Warriors announced Curry was diagnosed with the flu and had "no specific risk factors" for the coronavirus.

Curry missed four months with a broken hand he suffered in the fourth game of the season against the Phoenix Suns on Oct. 30.

The Warriors hosted the Toronto Raptors on Thursday in Curry's first game back. The two-time NBA MVP tied for the team lead with 23 points, though his 6-of-16 shooting performance indicated there was some rust he will have to shake off.

Injuries have been a problem for Golden State all season. Draymond Green, who has played only once since Feb. 20, will also be unavailable against the Sixers with a sore knee. Klay Thompson won't return until next season as he rehabs from a torn ACL.

Curry is averaging 20.8 points and 6.6 assists per game, though he's on pace to post a career-low 40.2 field-goal percentage and 24.5 three-point percentage.

Since the Warriors own the NBA's worst record (14-49), they can afford to be as cautious as they want with Curry for the rest of this season.
