Would Stephen Jackson Put The Cavs Over The Top?
We already know it will be a battle come May and June in the NBA. We can't predict things like injuries, but if Cleveland is falling behind Orlando and Boston in February, could Stephen Jackson be their savior?
He's a 6'8" scorer who can defend when he wants to and has a great friendship with Mike Brown and his sons. He would likely be here for a while with a four-year contract, and as long as LeBron stays he should be happy.
Now in a perfect world, you could trade him for nothing, so this is a dilemma for many. The contracts don't match up with anyone. Many have thrown in Z's name or West's, but that does not match the $7 million dollars Jackson is making. All of that is a question mark and will be left up to the teams.
What would Jackson do? Don't we already have a small forward? That's another question, but Jackson can adapt to shooting guard and spread the floor. He can stay out on the floor when LeBron rests and guard the opposing team's best player as long as he's motivated.
In Cleveland, he may act as L.A.'s Ron Artest. Tough, physical and a scorer. Jackson wants out, but none of this will happen soon, as the Cavs are happy with their roster.
But West is having problems and AP can't play all 48 minutes. If the Cavs can get Jackson for only a little and not trade Z, they might be able to pull off a three-team deal.
I think you could see a banner in Cleveland's future.
Latest on Jackson:
- Jackson was booed last night by the fans and pouted on the bench for not being able to take the last shot in the 3rd Quarter.
- He played with the fans last night as he was booed for missing a shot, but then made a great asist and trotted back cupping his ears.
- Shaq and LeBron both are intrigued by Jackson and if Cavs decide to play small this year with LeBron playing 4 and Shaq at 5 then Jackson could help. Last night the Cavs played well and were able to come back from 21 points doing this.
