Arsenal Player Ratings vs. West Ham United

Callum D'SouzaOct 26, 2009

Arsenal was given a glorious chance to close the gap between themselves and leaders Chelsea to just three. Sadly, Arsenal squandered a 2-0 lead and were only able to take a point out of the 2-2 encounter.

Arsenal was easily the dominant side, but failed to kill the game. A goal-keeping blunder and a dubious decision for a penalty resulted in frustration for Arsene Wenger.

Player Ratings

Vito Mannone —6: An error led to West Ham being allowed back in the game and you would now expect Manuel Almunia to be elevated back to first choice keeper.

Bacary Sagna 7: A tidy performance from the Frenchmen. Defended well and proved very handy in attack, earned an assist to his name after providing the pin-point cross for the van Persie goal.

William Gallas 7: Another solid effort from the former captain. Found a goal to his name and worked hard to contain the West Ham attack.

Thomas Vermaelen 6: Struggled at times with the speed and play of Carlton Cole, but did stop some dangerous attacks at times.

Gael Clichy 6: Was relatively untroubled on defence, but was too lackluster in attack with a few too many stray crosses.

Alexandre Song 6: Despite a clumsy challenge that resulted in a penalty, the Cameroonian was strong in breaking down the Hammer's midfield attacks and did track back well.

Cesc Fabregas 7: At times was hot, but was unlucky not to have his name engraved on the score card. Seemed at times to not have his usual fluent passing rhythm, but overrall a good effort.

Abou Diaby 6: A solid performance, but still a little disappointing. Has the potential to be a very dangerous attacking force, but can be a little clumsy at times.

Emmanuel Eboue 6: A tad too wasteful and did seem to make the wrong decision on a few occasions. Wenger may have to accept there are better options then the Ivorian.

Andrei Arshavin 6: Also a bit wasteful. Didn't do enough off and on the ball and overall it was disappointing for the Russian, as we are used to so much more.

Robin van Persie 8: Arsenal's best player on the field. Found another goal to add to his tally and was a constant threat near the goal. Could of clinched the extra two points in the final stages, but a good save denied him.
