Kristaps Porzingis Reportedly Doing Knee Injury Rehab with Real Madrid
New York Knicks star Kristaps Porzingis has been rehabbing his torn ACL at the Real Madrid team facilities, the New York Post's Marc Berman reported Wednesday.
According to Berman, Porzingis will stay overseas for most of the offseason as he recovers. Prior to making the jump to the NBA, he spent parts of four seasons playing in Spain.
Porzingis' performance doctor, Carlon Colker, provided an update on his recovery:
"KP is doing great in Madrid. His aggressive rehab is at a jaw-dropping rate. In conjunction, his body is already looking beastly. By September, he'll be almost non-recognizable with his shirt off. We're working on increasing his lean muscle mass and also training for a functionality and ruggedness to complement his game."
The 2018 All-Star has offered some insight into his rehab through a YouTube documentary series he debuted last month:
The timeline for Porzingis' return remains in the air.
ESPN's Ian Begley reported in February he'd be out a minimum of 10 months, which puts December as the earliest he could get back on the court. Knicks owner James Dolan said in April he heard Porzingis might be out for the entire 2018-19 season.
According to Berman, Knicks general manager Scott Perry believes the team will have a better idea of Porzingis' status around September, which will have been roughly six months after he had surgery on his knee.
Considering even the conservative estimates have Porzingis missing a big chunk of next season, the Knicks are likely facing another year in which they miss out on the playoffs.
