Report: Bruce Maxwell to Miss A's Series in Toronto over Pending Legal Situation
Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell will miss his team's upcoming series against the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre because of a pending legal situation, per Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Maxwell pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct in April, but his sentencing is scheduled for June 4. Because his status remains in limbo and the charges originally included gun enhancement, he is ineligible to enter Canada under its immigration guidelines.
The 27-year-old allegedly pulled a gun on a food-delivery worker in Arizona last October and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct, per Jorge L. Ortiz of USA Today.

He pleaded guilty to the latter charge and will have to take part in community service and complete probation.
"Accepting responsibility is the first step in working to make amends for my lapse in judgment," Maxwell said in a statement during his plea. "I am truly sorry for the pain that my actions have caused, and while they are not representative of who I am, I understand that I have to earn back the trust and respect of those around me."
Maxwell has appeared in 13 games in 2018, hitting just .211 with zero home runs and four doubles in his third season in the majors.
Jonathan Lucroy has become the team's primary option behind the plate, but Maxwell is the only other catcher on the roster. The Athletics will likely have to send him down to Triple-A for at least 10 days in order to add another catcher to the roster during this series.
