Manchester City Transfer News: Wilfried Zaha Distances Himself from Rumours

Tom SunderlandMay 13, 2018

Crystal Palace talisman Wilfried Zaha has said he has "no plans on leaving" Selhurst Park amid rumours linking him with the likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur.

After lending a major hand in helping Palace avoid relegation, Zaha scored in a 2-0 win over West Bromwich Albion on Sunday and told the club's official website (h/t Lee Wilmot of Football.London):

"I have no plans on leaving. I'm enjoying my football, you can see how much I'm enjoying it. This is my home and there's no reason for me to leave."

Zaha took to Twitter after the victory to mark the end of a tough campaign, sending thanks to the fans who have come to adore him again following a failed stint at Manchester United:

The 25-year-old has been in increasingly fine form for Palace since he moved back to Selhurst Park from Old Trafford in 2015, reportedly having earned attention from some of the Premier League's giants.

John Richardson of the Mirror recently reported City looked closer than any other suitor to signing Zaha and were prepared to pay £50 million for the player, although it seems the transfer sum won't be their main obstacle.

Instead, it seems convincing Zaha to leave the club that raised him from the age of 12, for the second time, will be their greatest challenge.

Having said that, while Zaha may be happy at Palace—who cemented an 11th-place Premier League finish with Sunday's win—he has also indicated he'd be open to the thought of leaving again, per Indy Football:

The truth is that money so often talks in big enough quantities these days that the only way to truly secure a player's loyalties in the long term is if they themselves wish to remain at the club.

The likes of City and Spurs offer a higher chance of major silverware but also the risk of being overshadowed on the individual level. Palace boss Roy Hodgson spoke to Match of the Day's Gary Lineker and said he hoped Zaha would be turned away from chasing that spotlight again:

The Ivory Coast international has re-established himself as one of the finest dribblers in England's top flight and is the undoubted headliner at Palace, much as he was prior to joining United in 2013.

There are sure to be temptations and interest in his signature this summer, but Zaha appears focused on Palace's cause for the time being and doesn't appear fazed at the thought of a Selhurst Park stay.
