Oscar De La Hoya Starting MMA Company; Targeting Chuck Liddell to Be 1st Fighter

If UFC legend Chuck Liddell is serious about an MMA comeback, he may have already found a manager.

Liddell and Oscar De La Hoya met Thursday, and the boxing legend said he's interested in signing Liddell to a contract with his new MMA promotion company.

"We're talking some business," De La Hoya told TMZ Sports. It's no secret that I love what MMA fighters do. The technique they have, the sacrifice they make. I want to get into the MMA business. I want to start Golden Boy MMA."

Liddell, 48, hasn't fought since 2010. He finished his MMA career with a 21-8 record and five losses in his last six fights. Since leaving MMA, he's tried his hand at acting and reality TV—most recently in a season of Celebrity Big Brother.

"I'm making a comeback for sure," Liddell said.

De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions is among the most successful boxing promotions in the world. His roster currently includes seven champions, including Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

It's unclear if Liddell would have a place in the UFC should he choose to return. The promotion essentially forcibly retired him following his 2010 loss to Rich Franklin, and the sport has only grown in the years since. Liddell would likely be fighting an uphill battle for UFC President Dana White to give him a shot.
