Dave Chappelle: Floyd Mayweather Had 'Greatest Run in History of Boxing'
Dave Chappelle doesn't know whether Floyd Mayweather Jr. should come out of retirement to try his hand at MMA.
The one thing he does know? Mayweather's 50-0 boxing career record is the best of all time.
"I think Floyd had a great record and the greatest run in the history of boxing," Chappelle told TMZ. "I don't know, whatever makes him happy, but I think he did his thing."
Mayweather, 41, retired from boxing following his knockout win over UFC star Conor McGregor last August. He has since been seen training in mixed martial arts and said the only way he would come back is if it's in an Octagon.
"I started training already," Mayweather told FightHype in March (h/t MMA Fighting's Jed Meshew). "Not the physical part, just the endurance part. I'm thinking about fighting in MMA. I've thought about it. I started training in Miami. I look forward to fighting probably at the end of the year. We don't know. Right now it's 50/50, it's not 100 percent but I've already started training...I really don't know yet but I'm very, very interested. We'll just see. Everything takes time. Everything takes time."
Mayweather has never fought in MMA, but UFC president Dana White has said he has an interest in a Mayweather fight. It's unclear whether that would be against McGregor, who is the sport's biggest star at the moment. UFC has a history of making fighters—even high-profile ones—work their way through the rankings.
But a payday like Mayweather-McGregor II might be something none of the parties are willing to pass up.
