Mike Rogers: 'I'm Not a Psychopath' After Threatening Tweet to Bucs' Jason Licht

Tyler ConwayApr 30, 2018

Tampa Bay Buccaneers security is investigating the actions of a fan who appeared to threaten the life of general manager Jason Licht during the 2018 NFL draft.

However, the fan has since called it a "tasteless tweet" and said he was not threatening actual physical harm.

"Yes, that was a total exaggeration," Mike Rogers, 38, of Houston told Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times. "Just caught up in the moment. It was just a tasteless tweet. I'm not a psychopath."

Rogers confirmed he posted a tweet featuring a GIF of a murder scene from the 1990 movie King of New York with the caption, "When I see Jason Licht next time I roll through Tampa." It was one of a number angry tweets his account posted during the draft, many of which are still up as of publication.

Rogers also appeared to reference the controversy with a gif mockingly calling the internet "serious business." He told Stroud he was simply a fan upset at Licht's draft choices, particularly picking defensive tackle Vita Vea over safety Derwin James, who played for Rogers' favorite college team, Florida State.

"I wanted (Quenton) Nelson really bad, but then he went off right before us," Rogers said. "Then we traded back. James was still there and a huge position of need. I mean we have (Chris) Conte back, and he's a huge liability in my opinion. I also think James not working out for teams hurt his stock, but I don't blame him. They have tape and combine to go off of."

The Bucs have not said whether they would take any action against Rogers.
