Kentucky Derby 2018 Odds: Latest Lines for Top Contenders and Dark Horses

David McCrackenApr 28, 2018

With a purse of $2 million on the line, the horse racing world will be fixated on Churchill Downs next Saturday in Louisville, Kentucky. The Run for the Roses has come around again for what's considered to be the most exciting two minutes in sports.

Unlike last year's winner Always Dreaming, there isn't a consensus No. 1 horse for bettors to put their money on. While Justify seems like a sure bet to at least place, he still has a lot of question marks regarding his experience as a competitor.

As cliche as it may sound, this year's Kentucky Derby reckons to be the year for a dark horse to win the first leg of the Triple Crown and etch his name in the record books.

Bolt d'Oro +900

This three-year-old colt might not be a familiar name for the casual horse racing fan, but that's alright. You might just be yelling his name after he wins you a lot of money next Saturday after the race.

Bolt d'Oro has won starts in the Del Mar Futurity and FrontRunner Stakes, winning his first three starts as a two-year-old.

The odds are stacked against Bolt d'Oro, but if there's any indication that he's feeling the pressure, he sure isn't showing it. In fact, he seems to be thriving.

Over the past few days, d'Oro has been exceptional on the race track during training, recording a time of one minute, 24 seconds over seven furlongs, per Blood-Horse. How that mark will translate remains to be seen. But one thing is certain: Bolt d'Oro is a name to remember.

Noble Indy +2000

One of trainer Todd Pletcher's four horses in this year's Kentucky Derby, it's easy to overlook Noble Indy considering he's essentially a teammate of Magnum Moon, Vino Rosso and Audible—the latter has the third-best odds to win.

But Noble Indy isn't a runt of the pack, nor should he be given a participation medal.

The Louisiana Derby winner has looked good in training, per PaulickReport.com. The colt timed in at 1:01.60 over five furlongs.

At plus-2000, you don't have to bet everything and the kitchen sink to make your money on this bet. In reality, all you need is a little faith that Noble Indy can pull off the upset.
