Bryce Petty Trade Rumors Surface After Jets Pick Sam Darnold in 2018 NFL Draft
Teams around the NFL are inquiring about the availability of New York Jets quarterback Bryce Petty, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reported Friday.
According to Rapoport, the Jets were also approached last offseason about trading Petty. Now, though, "they are more open to it" after drafting Sam Darnold with the No. 3 overall pick.
The Jets have a full quarterback room with Josh McCown, Teddy Bridgewater, Christian Hackenberg, Petty and Darnold all on the roster. Bridgewater and McCown are expected to compete for the starting gig, while Darnold is the star-in-waiting being groomed for the starting gig.

That may leave Petty and Hackenberg as the odd men out, as Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reported:
Bridgewater's future in New York is no more secure:
Mike Garafolo of NFL.com reported earlier in the week that Bridgewater "isn't a lock for a roster spot, at least until he shows he's healthy."
As for Petty, the 26-year-old appeared in 10 games for the Jets the past two seasons, throwing for 1,353 yards, four touchdowns and 10 interceptions while completing just 53.1 percent of his passes. At this point in his career, he's strictly a backup, so teams that seek an upgrade in that department are unlikely to offer the Jets much more than a late pick. They could also wait to see if the Jets release him.
Regardless, New York's quarterback room will likely be trimmed by one or two players in the coming weeks.
