Stephen Curry, Sony Agree to Multiyear Movie, TV Contract
Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry agreed to a deal with Sony Pictures Entertainment in which Sony will partner with Curry's production company, Unanimous Media, for various projects.
The Hollywood Reporter's Marisa Guthrie reported Monday that the deal not only covers potential movies and television programs but also gaming and virtual reality.
"I've been blessed to have this platform, and I want to use it to affect the world positively," Curry said of the agreement. "Partnering with Sony to share inspiring content with a global audience was a foregone conclusion."
According to Variety's Justin Kroll, Unanimous Media and Sony will collaborate to create content "with a focus on family, faith, and sports themes."
The name of Curry's production company is a reference to when he was the first-ever unanimous winner of the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in 2015-16, which was the second straight year he collected the honor.
Kroll noted Curry's agreement with Sony is the "biggest media deal of any athlete to date." The move comes after Curry inked a five-year, $201 million extension with the Warriors last summer, which was the biggest contract in NBA history at the time.
Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook has since eclipsed Curry after agreeing to a five-year, $205 million extension with OKC in September.
