Kyle Busch Captures 3rd Straight Victory with Win at NASCAR at Richmond

Kyle Busch's April reign continued at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Virginia, on Saturday.

For the third consecutive race, it was the No. 18 car finding Victory Lane. Chase Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick rounded out the top five in a caution-filled finish.

There was no shortage of storylines entering Saturday: Would Busch win his third consecutive race? Would Logano repeat as Toyota Owners 400 champ? Would Martin Truex Jr. be able to win both the pole and the race?

But in the end, the headline wound up being the same as it has been all month—a Busch win.

Martin Truex Jr. won the pole by posting the best time during qualifying. It looked like as though he was going to have a chance at finishing the race in the same place he started (first), as he led 121 laps. However, a mishap on pit road late and a car issue ended his bid for his first career short-track win. He had to settle for a disappointing 14th.

Logano appeared to be on his way to defending his title early on. After entering the day with zero stage wins on the year, he came out on top in each of the first two stages.

The No. 22 car led for 92 of the 402 total laps on the night. And while he may not have won, his fourth-place finish tied for his best result of the season to date.

There was an accident within the final 50 laps that caused some drivers to have to weave their way through the wreckage, with footage courtesy of NASCAR on Fox:

It was on the restart that Busch—who is coming off wins at both the O'Reilly Auto Parts 500 and Food City 500—received a golden opportunity to get his third straight victory.

The 32-year-old entered Saturday atop the points leaderboard. After beginning the restart in third place, he managed to make a late push to finish in first yet again.

For those keeping track, it was a historic date for Kyle's older brother, Kurt Busch:

The No. 41 car, which led for 98 laps, finished in 11th place.

The victory keeps the No. 18 car (415 points) in first place in the standings, with Logano (359), Clint Bowyer (329), and Harvick (324) his closest competitors. Harvick, who also had a three-race winning streak this season, is the only other driver with multiple victories.

All eyes will be on the younger Busch to see if he can complete the April sweep at the 2018 GEICO 500 next weekend.
