Kawhi Leonard Trade Rumors: Spurs Signaling They Won't Part with Star
Despite a potential rift in their relationship, the San Antonio Spurs are reportedly not giving any indication they will trade Kawhi Leonard.
Per Marc Stein of the New York Times, the Spurs "continue to give off signals behind the scenes" that Leonard won't be dealt this summer.
Leonard only appeared in nine games this season because of a quad injury that was first announced during training camp in September.
After playing 28 minutes in a Jan. 13 game against the Denver Nuggets, Leonard was ruled out indefinitely to continue rehabbing his ailing quad.
ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Michael C. Wright reported on Jan. 22 that Leonard's constant rehab and timetables to return were having a "chilling impact" on his relationship with the Spurs.
The two-time All-Star told reporters in March he was making "great" progress and was hoping to come back soon.
Per Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania, Leonard isn't expected to return at any point in the postseason. The 26-year-old has one more guaranteed year left on his deal worth $20.1 million with a player option for the 2019-20 season, per Spotrac.
After finishing third in NBA MVP voting last season, Leonard is eligible for a supermax contract extension from the Spurs that Stein notes would be worth over $200 million.
