Sergio Aguero's Father Talks 'Possible' Barcelona Move, Gives Injury Update

Leonel del Castillo, Sergio Aguero's father, has said there's a chance the Manchester City star could join Barcelona and given a positive injury update on the striker.

Del Castillo was asked if a move to Barcelona could materialise for his son, which would allow Aguero to link up with Lionel Messi at club level as well as in the Argentinian national team.

He told newspaper Ole (h/t Aaron Flanagan of the Mirror): "It's possible, next year many players change club."

He also gave an update on Aguero after he had keyhole surgery on his knee, per Stuart Brennan of the Manchester Evening News:

"It was all very fast. My wife sent him a message in the morning and he told her he was in hospital to be operated on.

"It's going to be a month off, but the conditions are there for everything to go well.

"It all happened quickly and hadn't been planned. The club doctors recommended it—it was cleaning of the knee. Everything went fine, and in around 10 days' time, he should be back to training."

Aguero had revealed he was recovering from the procedure on Twitter on Tuesday:

Man City also offered an update on their official website, which said the 29-year-old's campaign was likely over as a result of the operation.

Aguero will remain on 199 goals for the Sky Blues in the meantime. City's last fixture this season is a trip to Southampton on May 13, so a month on the sidelines will indeed most likely mean he is unable to play again for his club until next season.

Of course, if he should move to Barcelona this summer, he could stay on that tally indefinitely.

Barca already have Luis Suarez in their ranks, so Aguero isn't desperately needed at the Camp Nou, but like the Uruguayan, he is one of the deadliest strikers in European football.

He plundered 21 goals and six assists in 25 Premier League games this season to be rewarded with a place in the PFA's Team of the Year for the first time:

Indeed, Roberto Firmino should feel hard done by having missed out on a place as a result. The Brazilian's numbers aren't quite as strong—he has bagged 15 goals and seven assists in 33 matches—but his link-play, work ethic and selflessness have had a tremendous impact on Liverpool's thrilling play in the final third.

Aguero has improved in similar regards since Pep Guardiola's arrival in Manchester, which has seen him remain an important figure in the side despite the greater demands placed on him by the manager.

If he has played his last game for City, he'll be remembered as one of their greatest-ever players—he's already their top scorer, even if he is yet to reach the milestone of 200 goals. If he stays put, he can enhance his legacy further.
