Carson Wentz Progressing in Rehab After Knee Surgery, No Timetable for Return

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz gave reporters an update on his rehabilitation from the torn ACL he suffered in December, revealing that he has begun running and that he is encouraged by his progress, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of NJ.com.

Wentz also noted that he doesn't believe he needs to play in the preseason to be ready for Week 1, per Berman, and said he doesn't plan on adjusting his style of play.

"I'm not going to change," he said, per Reuben Frank of NBC Sports Philadelphia.

Wentz emphasized he won't rush back, however.

"If something feels really good I'm like, 'Alright, let's do it.' But you've just gotta stay the course," he said, per Garry Cobb of Fox 29 Philadelphia. "You've seen the horror stories of people coming back to soon. I can assure you that I'll be smart about it."

Wentz, 25, was arguably the favorite for MVP last season before his injury, throwing for 3,296 yards, 33 touchdowns and seven interceptions while completing 60.2 percent of his passes in 13 games. He also rushed for 299 yards.

An ACL tear during the team's regular-season win over the Los Angeles Rams cut his season short, however, though backup Nick Foles ably led the team to its first-ever Super Bowl title in his stead. But Wentz is the face of the franchise and looked as though he was emerging as one of the league's best young quarterbacks in 2017.

The presence of Foles, of course, means the Eagles don't need to rush Wentz back from injury. While Wentz is gunning for Week 1, the Eagles have the luxury of being patient with his recovery. Still, the return of Wentz remains the team's top storyline heading into the 2018 season.
