Tua Tagovailoa Has Setback with Hand Injury; Doctors Evaluating Plan of Action
Alabama head coach Nick Saban told reporters that quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed Saturday's spring scrimmage because of a hand injury.
"Tua had a little setback [Friday] with his hand," Saban said, according to SEC Country's Marq Burnett. "Doctors are trying to evaluate the best course of action and what we do with him the remainder of the spring. With that said, I can't really tell you anymore about—he didn't take any snaps [Saturday]. He didn't take a lot of snaps [Friday].
"We're going to try to protect this to make sure that this thing is not going to be an issue for him in the fall."
Tagovailoa, a rising sophomore, finished his freshman season in style when he entered the national championship game and propelled the Crimson Tide to a 26-23 overtime win against Georgia.
In the come-from-behind triumph, Tagovailoa completed 14 of 24 passes for 166 yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winner in the extra session.
The Hawaiian is now locked in a battle with incumbent starter Jalen Hurts to see who will be under center when the Crimson Tide open their 2018 regular season on Sept. 1 against the Louisville Cardinals.
