Michigan QB Wilton Speight Will Transfer to UCLA
Former Michigan quarterback and graduate transfer Wilton Speight announced Thursday that he has committed to play for the UCLA Bruins next season.
Speight announced the move in a video on Instagram:
Speight arrived at Michigan as a 3-star pro-style recruit in the class of 2014, and he redshirted his freshman year before picking up a few snaps in 2015.
It wasn't until 2016, as a redshirt sophomore, that Speight saw consistent action under center when he beat out John O'Korn for the starting job. In 12 appearances, he completed 61.6 percent of his passes for 2,538 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Speight returned as the starter in his redshirt junior season, but his final year with the Maize and Blue was cut short because of a back injury. All told, he attempted just 81 passes before John O'Korn and Brandon Peters took over.
Now, Speight will head to UCLA and represent a seasoned option under center for head coach Chip Kelly if he doesn't want to hand the keys over to former 4-star quarterback Devon Modster.
