Royals Return
As shared by BrokenCricket, Royals celebrated their return to the Sawai Mansingh Stadium after a lengthy suspension and a spell at other stadiums:
Daredevils won the toss and elected to field, handing star opener Ajinkya Rahane the chance to put some early runs on the board. The 29-year-old scored 45 from 40 but didn't get much help from his team-mates in the middle overs, although Sanju Samson added a quick 37 from 22.
The match was delayed by rain, seemingly giving the hosts the chance to regroup for a late push in the final two overs. But after a brief spell of dry conditions, the rain intensified, and we soon started losing overs.
Reduced Overs
The rain eventually stopped and play resumed, Delhi seeking a target of 71 in six overs with two Powerplay overs. Per BrokenCricket, this was to their advantage:
Reduced overs tend to favour batting sides, but that wasn't the case on Wednesday.
Diamond Duck, Royals Cruise
Colin Munro was run out before he even had the chance to swing the bat, as the very first delivery of the chase saw Krishnappa Gowtham tie up Glenn Maxwell, with his team-mate charging down.
The early setback seemed to shake Delhi, who fell behind the required run rate and never recovered. They needed 25 in the final over and didn't even come close to hitting that mark.
What's Next
Daredevils return to action on Saturday, when they face Mumbai Indians, while Royals' next match will be against Royal Challengers Bangalore on Sunday.
