Omri Casspi Waived by Warriors After Quinn Cook Reportedly Signs Contract
The Golden State Warriors waived Omri Casspi on Saturday.
The move comes three days after ESPN.com's Chris Haynes and Marc J. Spears reported the team was in "serious discussions" regarding a multiyear deal with point guard Quinn Cook. Assuming that deal is finalized, Cook—who was initially signed to a two-way contract—will be playoff-eligible.
The Warriors needed to waive a player to clear a spot for Cook since they already had 15 guaranteed contracts on the books.
Casspi, 29, signed a one-year deal at the veteran's minimum prior to the 2017-18 season.
In 53 appearances, including seven starts, he averaged 5.7 points on 58.0 percent shooting from the field and 45.5 percent shooting from three.
However, he's been sidelined since March 17 because of a right ankle injury.
Had he made the Warriors' postseason roster, he would have been able to appear in a playoff game for the first time since debuting in 2009.
