Jonathan Gibson, Celtics Reportedly Agree to Contract
The Boston Celtics and free-agent guard Jonathan Gibson reportedly agreed to terms on a contract for the remainder of the season on Thursday, according to Yahoo Sports' Shams Charania.
Gibson, 30, hasn't played in the NBA yet this season. Prior to latching on with the Celtics, he suited up for the Qingdao Eagles of the Chinese Basketball Association. There, he averaged 33.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game while shooting 44.6 percent from the field and 37.4 percent from three.
Prior to making the move to China, Gibson suited up in 17 games for the Dallas Mavericks last season. The New Mexico State product averaged 6.2 points and 1.5 assists in 13.6 minutes per game during that trial run.
His arrival in Boston coincides with news that Kyrie Irving will miss the remainder of the regular season and the playoffs following surgery to remove two screws from his surgically-repaired left knee. According to the club, the screws are being removed to rid his patella of a bacterial infection.
At 6'2'' and 185 pounds, Gibson should round out the Celtics' depth chart at point guard behind Terry Rozier, Shane Larkin and Kadeem Allen.
