Spurs' Streak of 18 Straight 50-Win Seasons Snapped with Loss vs. Clippers
The San Antonio Spurs have been a model of consistency over the past two decades, but one of their major accomplishments ended this season.
As Tom Orsborn of the San Antonio Express-News noted, Tuesday's 113-110 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers at Staples Center prevented the team from winning 50 games in 2017-18. The Spurs had recorded at least 50 wins in each of the previous 18 seasons.
At 45-33 with four games remaining, head coach Gregg Popovich and Co. couldn't replicate that success.
The next challenge will be to secure a spot in the postseason, something San Antonio has done in every season since 1997-98, which was Tim Duncan's first in the NBA.
While the Spurs are in fifth place in the Western Conference, the ninth-place Denver Nuggets are only two games behind. And after three losses in its last five games, San Antonio is no lock to reach the playoffs.
